What the heck is going on? I know that hurricane did A LOT more damage than I thought. Crap... when the weather channel was out in the hurricane.... and they showed some of the aftermath.... it didn't seem as bad. Now, CNN, the weather channel, and many other news channels are showing the devastation... rioting, robbery, shootings... all that crap.... they are having evacuation problems... and a whole lot of crap going on.

They don't even know what the death toll was.

All I have to say is that my prayers are for everyone effected by Hurricane Katrina (spelling?)

Just simply stupid. So much devestation, and yet idiots who want to come up with all these electronic stuff who wont be able to use it for months since there wont be electricity in that area. These are the people who make me not want to help them. Its really, really sad.

The rioting and looting is a serious problem, but they can't help people AND stop the rioting at the same time.

Well, IMO, this whole fiasco could have been prevented They chose to largely ignore the hurricane, thinknig it wouldn't be major. Now, it's the most devestating to hit the USA in terms of life lost. Humanity thinking they are invincible, right up until their mortality is shown.

Don't get me wrong, I pity those who got hit by the hurricane, but this situation did not have to be this bad.

Exactly which is why the people who are looting non-essential items and shooting at rescue helicopters and at the rescue buses at the superdome. We have people who desperately need help and these morons want to keep their precious tv's and PS2's. Yes they were stealing PS2's. Now im hearing reports of rape? Dude what the hell? I know its going to sound bad but they need to be wiped off the face of society. I hope martial law starts to take effect soon.

I dont understand how we can go to India or whatever and do all that for the tsunami relief, and we cant even keep people from from looting and such in our own country....

Because even those people are poorer, they still didnt act like savages as much as some people in New Orleans have. Rescue teams cant rescue with people shooting at them.

Americans are the worst of all humans on the whole of representing humanity's basic instincts. Because human nature decides that greed > all other things. It takes a righteous person to overcome these things. Wealth and power, make the world go round.

did anyone hear about the snipers shooting at the hospital when they were trying to evacuate the sick people. thats not trying to keep their stolen "PS2s" thats just sick bastards

Well, this shows the whole world what Americans are to our own countrymen. We as a society would kill, destroy and alienate every person around us to gain that last dollar. But if a foreign country needs assistance, we are ready to empty our pockets. The American citizen, I am sorry to say, is hypocritical. What profit does one gain by attempting to shoot down a rescue chopper?? And stealing useless junk when the top priority is to get clean water and food??

Because some people are really damn stupid. Many people in America have been living under the notion that they can eat and drink whenever, but not to play their PS2's. They hit the stupid mark when not even a catagory 5 hurricane can dent that ideal.

I heard about that... I just cannot figure it out.

Maybe part of this has to do with terrorism..... these are terrorist acts. In fact, if caught..... I think they should be prosecuted like terrorists..  A lot of the gangs are running loose in the streets as well.

Actually.... crap like this happens with every major disaster... no matter what country... its not just a problem with Americans.

This might actually make people scared to come to the US :lol  One lady from Vietnam (that was in one of my graphics classes) said that in many places... its more dangerous to live in the US than Vietnam.
Another foreign student said they felt safer in Saudi Arabia (post Iraq war).

How serious were those students? I have no idea...

They aren't likely to be caught...and aren't terrorists put before a military tribunal? You can't do that to an American citizen that is not in the military.

But, Americans aren't raised to be loyal to their country anymore...

There is no way of finding who is doing what, let alone bringing them to trial.

The whole place is chaos, and people are acting irrationally. They want food, they want water, they have no electricity, aren't getting medical attention, and above everything else they just want to get out of New Orleans. But, the thing is, they aren't getting taken out of there fast, so what do they do? Whatever they have to to get out of there.

But the thing is most of them are staying put and not going anywhere. It doesnt look like they are trying to get out, more like waiting for rescue crews to get them out. Either way both sides of this crisis messed up. Both the people in New Orleans who are shooting at the rescue people and the government. Even with anarchy going on how come we still cant go in there and restore order? Not to mention our troops that are in Iraq that could have helped the situation, but still we should have had been able to come up with some type of plan already.

I was watching some more of the news coverage, and one guy made a valid point. He got caught comeing out of Walmart with a jar of peanut butter and a six pack of juice. The cops stopped him and said he was looting. He replied, "No. Looting is when you steal TVs and DVD players. I am getting food for my kids because there isn't any anywhere else." The cops let him go. I guess when you put it in perspective, there isn't a whole lot of looting if you take the people who are merely trying to survive out of the equation.
I also heard a story where some rapper or singer or whatever started blasting Bush and calling him a rascist because of how slow the relief efforts got going. I personally think it took some time to realize the extent of the damage. Even an old man was quoted by CBS as saying that hurricanes to him were mere thunderstorms untill now.

Many people can't escape, and ARE waiting to be taken away. Most people are trying hard just to stay with their loved ones.
Yep Spartan. They're stuck on the roofs of their houses. On Friday I watched an interview with a woman who was taken to the Houston Astrodome, and how she has no idea where her 13 year old son is. They got split up in New Orleans. This is really a messed up deal... :(
