Interesting article. The failure rate for the 360 is through the roof, MS seriously messed up with that one.

Worst console ever made? I can't think of any other that has had the problems of the 360. I mean, we're talking about users who have went through 4-5 360's. That is just unacceptable! But who can you blame? People continued to buy them even after the hardware issues were very well known. It's too bad the Wii doesn't have a better lineup of games. Say what you will about N, but they always make quality hardware that lasts. Sony as well.

Well the original Xbox was pretty bad for a while until they started using the Phillips and Samsung drives. And I remember PS2 had a few kinks in the beginning but that seemed to get taken care of pretty quick. And typically the only PS2 problem was a dirty laser lens which was insanely easy to fix yourself.

It wasn't always a dirty laser lens. I tried every trick in the book on my ol' fat PS2, but nothing worked. I called up Sony, and after a few disgruntled workers hanging up on me, I got a free replacement even though it was out of warranty. Turns out they knew about the problem.

Well, in my opinion Microsoft has done a pretty good job of making amends. The 3 year warranty is pretty fair and cost them a lot. They definitely dropped the ball, but they made a solid effort to make up for it.

Microsoft has done well. They've done warranty work on 3 different xbox 360's for me and all have been fine. Two were purchased second hand and I was a bit shocked they fixed the RROD even though I wasn't the original owner. They've got a Big Brother-esque phone system.. The third 360 I'd purchased as a gift and when it went bad I was asked to help with the warranty claim. When I called MS I used his name instead of mine (so i could just have them ship straight to him) and they'd called me out on it! Their voice recognition is scary, it had your voice print and address attached so when I said I was someone else with a different address they immediately know my real name and address because I'd already sent an xbox off with them before.

So now, if the 16 + million the article estimated had problems with their xboxes were all in that voice recognition data base and it retrieved my name and address instantly, I'm guess Bill Gates has that computer from eagle eye in his basement!

Holy crap, targetrasp! Haven't seen you in forever! How ya been, man?

Unfortunately for me, my 360 failed and it wasnt the RROD, so I had to pay a hundred freaking bucks to get it fixed. I was not a very happy person. And the customer service I got from them was terrible. I talked to 3 different people and they all said different things. But console number 2 is holding steady right now.

I'm surprised anyone remembered me. Blue made a comment in another thread pretty much saying the same thing! I've lurked about every couple of months but haven't said much. I think I've just had a really bad case of writer's block.

As far as the consoles failing I've finally gotten brave enough to work on the newer stuff. Most of the time they fix easily (the RROD iis fixed by adding a couple of washers) and the ylod on the ps3 takes a nice heat gun and lots of patience. The parts are the problems, when something requires drives or boards they get too cheap to fool with. Thank god microsoft extended their warranty.

haha, no way dood, my kids fed my Wii a quarter and it promptly took a trip to Nintendo soon after, cool thing is, they fixed it under warranty!

Yeah but Targetrasp if your kids had fed a quarter to a 360 it would have burst into flames. :p

All joking aside the 360 does have some serious problems given how frequently breaks down and while the consumers do share some responsibilty for there willingness to buy the defective product but ultimately it is Microsofts fault for making the piece of junk.
