death error

Sony FTW
So my ps3 is broken. :'( I was playing COD4 online when the system froze. I restarted it and the disk did not show up. I tried taking it out and cleaning it and also tried all my other ps3 games. It finally read one of them but when I started it, it showed error message 80010514 and said there was an error in the start up operation. It will occasionally let my play my games for maybe 10 minutes but will then freeze and go through this whole painful process again. I did some research and have found that this is actually a somewhat big issue with the ps3. Sony doesn't even acknowledge that it exists. However, people are saying that this error is a result of a malfuctioning blu-ray lens or something of that nature. All my ps2 games still work on my ps3 so it has to be the blu-ray player. To get a replacement or refurbished system is $150 because I'm out of warranty. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, do you know of any way to fix it without sending in the system?

Not really man, sorry to hear your loss. Mine did that around August I believe.

Okay, what you need to find, is the original reciept and call this number. 1-800-345-SONY.

If it's still under warranty, they will fix it. if not, get ready to dish out $150 for repair :(

Hey Jack, I am just curious, is this an early 60Gb model? Those are the ones I see with issues the most.

Ask Mega about that one. He's paid $350 in 360 repairs.

You got that right buddy boy!

Microsoft and Sony? UP YOURS!

Nintendo is the only company that will treat you like a king.

But they sell your throne separately, and if you want your crown you'll have to buy the Wii Play package, unless you want to get ripped off... :lol

I wouldn't know, as none of my Nintendo systems have ever broken, nor has any of my friends. Say what you will about Nintendo, but they do make the highest quality products out of the 3, and time has proven that to be true :)

I had a GBASP that quit charging after 1 month. Called up Nintendo, and they gave us a new one without having the reciept or anything.

Now that is excellent service!

It is a 60gb and I bought it in july of 2007. Also, this error code seems to be rare compared to the RROD. Contrary to what I said earlier, this problem doesn't seem to affect too many ps3 owners. SONY JUST NEEDS TO ADMIT IT ACTUALLY EXISTS AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Anyone know if they wipe the memory when fixing it? Thanks for all the help :)
