Did anyone get one?

I think it was really stupid of whoever did it...but on another note.

Rumor (yes, I know, grain of salt taken) has it that they released small numbers of the 360 to basically build up a ravenous thirst for one, and that by Black Friday more will be out. Not saying I believe it necessarily, but throwing it up there.

Rumor? I would say more along the lines of common sense. Ever since the PS2 this is how consoles are going to be sold until video games finally drop in popularity.

Videogames will drop in popularity when humans cease to exist.

And Microsoft played this perfectly. No commercials or ads on release day, and ship just a few to test the waters. Now that people are going nuts because there's much demand and little supply, they're going to flood the stores and ride it out to the last penny.

has anyone else seen the stupid commercials for this I saw 2 and neither one had anything to do with video games or the system

Somehow, I doubt it is a rumor... I am nearly sure they planned it that way... WHY?!  look at all the hype they have now.  They had nearly NO hype going into launch.

You also didn't read ANY stories about there being manufacturing shortages like you did with the PSP.

I would assume that they made a false shortage to drive up a more false larger demand.

That's what some people were saying. That there is no shortage, only MS ticking off thousands of people. Thousands of people who are likely to buy the 360 anyways.

MS can sell a product, but when I get screwed out of it just because I can't wait outside in the below freezing weather for 10 hours to be first in line they have gone to a new extreme.

on top of that, I have called all stores in the fort wayne area that would carry it.... and NONE of them know when they are getting a restock.

NOW..... why is that weird? MOST of the time, they know a general idea.... be it a week or a couple day time frame.
But EVERY retail states "We have no idea."

Yeah, well, lemme know when you get a Premium Edition you can sell to me. No hurry really, but I don't really want to have to fight people off for it. I'm guessing I'll have mine by the end of the year, but it looks like it is gonna be next to impossible to get one.

BTW, my mom, while searching for the 360, said a Best Buy employee said 2 weeks from Friday before 2nd shipment.

I finally got mine. I picked it up on the 23. But actually the first system I got was defective, so I had to exchange it for another system. A lot of people who pre-ordered didn't pick them up.

Ok, perhaps I'm not in a sober state of mind or something, but why is it smart to not hype a system's launch? I was very perplexed by the lack of commercials I saw for this system's launch, especially considering the marketing blitz that preceded the launch of the Xbox. Was it really necessary to "test the waters?" Its not like if the it turned out there was a lack of interest they could just pull out of the gaming industry. Why didn't they hype this up before launch?

I know what your saying but obviously they didnt need any hype and I think they knew that.

Still, its very unlike Microsoft to just put a product out there and not hype the $%*! out of it.

I thought maybe it was because they were going to focus all their attention on grabbing the Christmas crowd. Get Xbox 360's into stores first, and then push it hard once Christmas gets a little closer.

yeah... I don't get it... there still wasn't hype. The only hype they had were the "hold ups" and shortages (self induced though).

I got to admit, though..... if they planned the hype like that, they were genius as it worked. You know what would even be worse is if Msoft went about doing the hold ups to create the hype :lol :lol
