FF games at least have interesting and new storylines in each one, as well as jaw dropping cinematics. Their games at least evolve in some ways, but that's beside the point, we're talking about Nintendo and their use of the pokemon license, not Sony or Square Enix or anything else.
I just think pokemon has great potential to be really good game that appeals to gamers young and old. If Nintendo dropped the "kiddy" design of the game with a better storyline and more involving gameplay then they could sell twice as many copies by opening up the series to another demographic. Its foolish to restrict the audience to little kids who have no income to spend on games. Aim it at the teenagers with part-time jobs and with nothing better to spend money on. Aim it at young adults who have jobs and who are looking for entertaining ways to spend their time. Yes they can sell millions without putting any effort into the game, but that's the problem. Unless you work for Nintendo and get a pay raise with each pokemon game sold you should be outraged that they're throwing this tripe at you year after year just because they can. As a consumer we should demand the best products that they can provide us, not understand that they're a business who's just trying to separate us from our hard earned dollars.
No, the pokemon franchise is a prime example of Nintendo putting profits before people. If Nintendo's concerned with the direction the industry's heading in, they should take some of their own advice and stop trying to make a quick buck. On the GBA pokemon games should offer at the very least an average storyline and new gameplay mechanics with each new version. All the pokemon should be included with each update as well as the new ones added, so it at least looks like they're not trying to get you to buy the same game 4 times. They should then bring a game like that over to the GC in full 3d, add in some "maturity", (nothing horrific, make the main character at least a teenager, make the world you travel in a not so friendly place, make an actual plot or storyline to the game instead of the main motive being "to catch them all", and making the pokemon actually die or get physically harmed would make it a hell of a lot cooler too, stuff like that) maybe even add in some real-time combat system or add some more depth into the already existing one, and an online component could be really cool too (but like that's gonna happen anyway).
Who doesn't want to see at least some of that come true?
