Hi Members,

Is it safe to leave your computer on all night?
I know my screen goes to black after any inactivity for 15-20 minutes. Is that the equivalent of selecting "Sleep"?

Yep, doesn't matter {assuming this is not a gaming PC}. In the super hot summer months I would try to turn it off over night, but even than it still shouldn't hurt if you have to leave it on over night. Sometimes mine stays on for 3-4 days at a time.

I always heard it's not safe to leave it on all day long. I turn my off when Im at work or when Im sleeping.

Oh I should probably add that my initial response was for modern computers that run very efficiently, not sure if the same could be said for older computers. And yes Kaz, your PC goes into idle when not in use and cuts power consumption in half.

I have an older computer, and have left in on for days and it's just fine. I don't like to keep it on when I'm sleeping cause of the lights on everything and I can't sleep and the thing is louder than my 360, but other than that there's nothing wrong with leaving it on.

It generally is okay to leave your computer on 24/7, just make sure you reboot every once in a while. If yours is prone to overheating, or something like that, or your electric bill is extremely tight (and i mean extremely) then you should shut down when you're not using it.

It can't be too bad to leave your PC on for ages since sometimes when you've got huge scans, fix ups or download sessions going, over night is the best time to do that.

Just make sure you give it a reboot if you think it's straining too much.
