DOOM3 WARNING!!!

Doom3 is great but will be unusable for many including ME!

it REQUIRES atleast a 256meg card for the game to be PLAYABLE anything less will be laggy as crap. this is from PERSONAL experence, 128 meg will NOT cut it friends have tried it with 128 cards and was lagginy majory. 64? forget it

just a warning as this game is made for tomorrows video cards andI hope you take this into consideration before spending your hard earned money.

there are 3 different playable modes on the pc.

there is a LOW setting that will be similar to the xbox version.... Actually... the lowest setting probably will be better than the Xbox version (maybe).

Anyway.... with a P4 1.5 ghz... and I forget the ram requirements..etc. you can run the lowest version.

the highest requirement version requires the 256 meg graphics card.

So there are three different versions of it? That's good then, because I wanted to get it

so where you near one of the Best Buys that accidently released the game early? :p

I had it in the LOWEST setting (640X480)(with all the other option OFF) and was UNPLAYABLE and i have the REQUIRED hardware.

BV have you played DOOM3 or are you just repeating what the company is saying? My comments are comming from PERSONAL experence. BTW there are 4 quality settings that you can choose.

This is my rig

P4 2.0 GHZ
533mhz bus speed
785 megs of RAM
directx newest

I'm not getting it since I'm not into the Doom seris and it comes out this Wednesday down here. I bet Best Buy and all the other electronic stores are going to be packed with gamers!

I bet your computer need to be a super machince to play this game too. *doesn't have a super machine, has more of a music machine* <----What a lame ass comment I made.  :lol

Did it really get released early on accident in some places? That would explain why the release was bumped up at GameStop. Apparently we're going to have it like tomorrow night by 7 instead of the original date of August 3.

But anyway...this is the reason why I'm still iffy about PC gaming. I don't want to drop serious $$$ into my PC only to find out it still won't run such-and-such game.

Did you trouble shoot the game at all? Update your drivers? Reinstall the software? Make sure you had no processes running in the background? What operating system are you using? Do you have spyware on your computer? Is your internet connection running at the same time as DOOM 3?

Just because a game is faulty on your computer does not mean it is your hardware or that it will happen to others.

has happened to bunch of my friends and they had much better computer than me with same problems. One said he had 128 ddr ati card with 2.5 ghz P4 CPU and was getting major lag with medium setting(second from bottum).

every thing was perfectly FINE on my computer drivers every thing updated and restarted it all, beside to make sure i played vice city on PC for about a hour.

I would be VERY carefull if you buy doom3 because there is the possibility that it won't run very good, beside if you got a AGP 128 meg DDR GFX card and can only run the lowest setting without lag thats BS.

BTW the running joke on this game is "I just Uninstalled DOOM3, Join the club"

so before you buy it borrow it from a friend to see if it will run on your system.

BV, what makes you think the Xbox will have such crappy graphics?

Anyway, how many players does the multiplayer support? I heard it was only 4..........

Tmaxxer, I am waiting for the retail release to come out.... I have not installed the "leak" version.....
I am going by other people and reviewers.
Did you get a retail version?

I am not saying its going to have "crappy graphics," spartan.

I am saying it will be somewhere around the lowest detail version... if not lower. The reasoning? The Xbox is a 733 Mhz system. It can run Counter strike with nice graphics... BUT counterstrike (that runs off the half-life engine) is a 75-133 Mhz Pentium game.

Doom 3 pushes the envelope ...... BIG TIME. I cannot imagine the game having a multiplayer at all on the Xbox.... or decent graphics.... IF they keep the game as is now without toning it down horribly... losing textures....etc.... thats all I am saying.

†B†V† :hat

Well, I heard that Doom3 was supposed to continually look better as newer technology came out, meaning they had envisioned it to run on better systems than are currently unavailable to the public. So I can believe tmaxxer when he says it doesn't run well, if at all, even if the minimum requirements are met.

From ebgames.com:

System Requirements:
Microsoft Windows 2000/XP; Pentium IV 1.5 GHz or AMD Athlon 1.7 GHz XP processor or higher; 384MB RAM; 8x Speed CD-ROM drive (1200KB/sec sustained transfer rate) and latest drivers; 1.7GB of uncompressed free hard disk space (plus 400MB for Windows swap file); 100% DirectXR 9.0b compatible 16-bit sound card and latest drivers; 100% Windows 2000/XP compatible mouse, keyboard and latest drivers; 3D hardware Accelerator Card Required - 100% DirectXR 9.0b compatible 64MB Hardware Accelerated video card and the latest drivers.

Multiplayer Requirements:
Internet (TCP/IP) and LAN (TCP/IP) play supported; Internet play requires broadband connection and latest drivers; LAN play requires network interface card and latest drivers

I have FULL retail Version

anyway this game is pretty much worthless without a good GFX card if you got a really nice one this game will blow your mind. I have a ati agp 64 meg standard, nothing fancy and is old. I had minimum requirments would play bearly but was unusable because of choppy game play. just think about that before you buy it.

How large did you make your windows swap file? and you do realize that you can severely raise your swap file up to 1000 mb to compensate for lack of hardware.

I hope you know that Doom 3 is already up for downloads over the Internet already. :o

And the game is going to be retailed priced at $54 at Best Buy, I just saw it in there ad today.

i'll give it a try in XP and see what happens.

EDIT here's what i found, i have 1 version of my GFX board too low, i have 7500 and i need at least 8500
so I guess I'm behind in gaming scene, lol

below is a snipit from the readme
