Dragon Quest DS'es

I was wondering. Im confused on the lineage of the two released Dragon Quest's so far on the DS. I dont know which to play first, and I also dont know which one comes first. I heard from somewhere that they are supposed to be part of a trilogy but I havent been able to discover that fact.

id say play IV first then V and then VI... but that's just me... really they are very different experiences when it comes to story and how the game is set up, so it doesn't really matter what order you play them.

I am not sure about that one i am just speaking by what a friend has told me (because i asked the same question to him) so i'll have to do a little bit of research on that topic
 
the monster catching one? No.

Dragon Quest 4-5-6 are all connected storyline wise. The others are side-stories and other tales :)
