DS VS PSP Article

VB were pretty cool but the sad thing is they had a next gen VB(colorized with better graphics) but because the vb failed they KILLED all projects that involved the designer and the vb. It's truley a sad thing thing because the designer got a "window" seat (you push papers but make no changes to the company) and shortly later he gets killed.

No, I think it was a car accident. I saw a TV show on him once (Icons on G4TechtTV, its a great documentary style show all about videogames), and I think that's where Tmaxxer is getting his information from. I think it was the same guy who actually invented/pioneered Game Boys, and after that success he came up with the Virtual Boy which, well, ruined his reputation, which is why it was so sad that he died shortly after.

yep ICONS froma little while back, he really did a lot in his life and was a shame what happened.

as for PSP vs. DS I think i might be leaning toward the DS again, Nintendo knows handhelds and been in the market for very long time.

The thing about the DS Vs PSP article that I found interesting is that the panel said "Nintendo.... didn't you learn from the N64?"
Meaning cart vs CD.

Well... I believe they did..... and Nintendo had the more powerful system while the PSX just had the support. Basically.... its not always what system has the most power/newest features..... its the system with the most support, and honestly I think the DS is going to come out ahead on support due to their alliances for the last 10 years of the GB platform.

$179.95 and 2 months later they had a price cut but the VB was just doomed to failure.

OUCH! That would not have helped it. Was the VB a handheld console? Every time I've seen it the VB was on a stand.

Ya, it was a stand that you had to have on a table or set up somehow so that you'd have to strain your neck and and stand up to look into it right. Stupid idea.

Back to the DS/PSP thing, Sony has made many more alliances via the PSX and PS2, so don't think for a second that Nintendo has some kind of advantage in support.

also keep in mind there were 2 Nintendo console's AHEAD of the PSX and they got the support still. so it's possible the psp could do the similar thing, beside the psp has the SONY name on it.

AND on a sidenote the DS is NOT going to replace the gameboy line (GBA) they are going to continue with the gameboy and come out with ANOTHER gameboy in the future!!

Um - BV....you were the one that said all 3rd party games suck on Nintendo systems.

did I say all Nintendo systems... or was I talking about the Gamecube? ;)

GBA... has more 3rd party support than almost any system.
I would almost venture to say ANY system.

Well, no, if there's more 3rd parties developing for the GBA then it's a fact. This is one of few things mentioned on these boards that isn't opinion and can actually be proven with numbers.

Either way, it doesn't matter. This is gonna be the DS VS PSP, as the title of the thread says, and it's gonna be a whole new ball game. No company has ever seriously challenged Nintendo's domination of the handheld market, so we have no historical reference to infer outcomes from. All we can do is see how the console market ended up after Sony came in, and we all know how that turned out.

well ya there wasn't much challence for the gameboy line of handhelds and they all flopped. It's not saying much to say the GBA has the best 3rd party support when there are no BIG challengers right now.

psp will really be the REAL challengers that has the possibility of doing really good.
