EA Playground - something new for once?

With all the talk of EA, I thought I'd dig this up. It looks like they try new things every once in a while after all.

Not everyone has fond memories of hangin' out on the playground (was I the only one getting daily wedgies?), but EA thinks it's the perfect setting for a new multiplayer experience on the Wii. You'll navigate through a dreamlike playground on which you'll meet characters, collect items, and, of course, play games. Most of the activities are of a physical nature, such as playing dodge ball--you'll throw, catch, and dodge balls by mimicking real-life movements with the Wii remote. Other activities will be more about precision. In one, you'll race RC cars around the playground, avoiding obstacles like a table or a person's leg. Every minigame will have a multiplayer mode and use only the Wii remote. (Sorry, kids--no playground boxing with the nunchuk.) While the game seems to be aimed at young players, EA insists that's just the setting. "It's about the simplicity of being a kid," says executive producer Dave McCarthy. "It doesn't matter if you're five years old or fifty-five."

Dodge ball and tetherball look like they might be fun.

Nintendo in general just doesn't have anything original coming out for it. :-\
I think EA has a bigger problem with originality than Nintendo. The Wii is generally a very original system that actually has had a few truly original things, even if nothing new, or good has come out recently...

Well at least Nintendo, for every Pokemon that comes out, they also have something like Elite Beat Agents or Hotel Dusk Room 215 come out.

EA on the other hand...for every Madden that comes out, there's another NBA Live that comes out. :lol

Truth..haha :lol

Yeah, but part of the problem is most of the games like Hotel Dusk 215 don't sell well or gather the hype the Pokemon games do, even though the game is perfectly fine.

Similar to how Beyond Good and Evil and Psychonauts were both praised by all the critics but both sold very few copies, simply because of bad marketing and lack of hype/recognition. EA knows it can bank on every sequel, but new IP's require taking a risk.

I bought and played Psychonauts because of all the fantastic reviews it got, but it failed to impress. The opening menu screen was awesome, how before you knew it you were already playing the game. But aside from that it just felt like your standard platformer. You had your main hub world to walk around in, and whenever you felt like it you would travel to a level that consisted of nothing more than a straight path to meander through. Oh, and you had to collect ridiculous amounts of everything. Woo. :P
