EGM's Gamecube E3 Report Card

Strengths:
-Several outstanding first-party titles
-Novel games such as Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and Odama show that Nintendo continues to innovate
-The company is finally getting over the whole GBA-to-GC connectivity gimmick

Weaknesses:
-Not as many triple-A games as the competition
-Nintendo still has no love for online gaming--and likely won't until its next generation of hardware
-Third-party support at an all-time low, with next to no exclusives

Overall:
Powerhouse first-party games (realistic Zelda!) have us psyched, even as third-party support continues to slip and Nintendo focuses on DS.

Grade: B

Yeah... but 3rd party titles have been sucking bad anyway... and most 3rd party companies do not want to do exclusivity anymore.

What do you think this report means?

Honestly... how do you think the gamecube stands in respect to the other sytems...and what do you think the cube's future is?

The main reason I'm getting rid of my GC is because it lacks online gaming. 2 games that you have to pay for versus 1 payment for a lot of games online convinced me to switch to Xbox

.....

Why is everyone so into online gaming these days? What's wrong with a good old 1 v.s. 2 in the living room? :-\

I swear, online gaming has warped people's minds.

Retro, I feel sort of the same about online.

But for everyone who gets rid of their GC, we who keep ours can laugh when the new Zelda comes out and kicks the heck out of any other game. ;D

Yeah, well I could say the same about every game, including those ones on PS2 that you seem to be looking forward to so much.  ::)

Give me a break, man. It was a joke. If you see my posts about Halo 2 you'd see that I'm actually looking forward to using Live, which means I don't honestly think online=suckage.

But really I have never been disappointed with a Zelda game, so I don't see why that would change for the new one. I think Four Swords is a good nominee for GOTY and it's not even a canon Zelda.

The GameCube is the only next gen system I own and will own until the next Nintendo system comes out. However, I really do not think Nintendo Revolution is going to come out.

I think Nintendo is going to switch to handhelds perminently. It seems to be the only market that they consistently make a lot of money in and no-one else is able to compete against.

And, if Nintendo's last console is the GameCube, OMG, except some of the best titles evar to come onto the scene. Every company always makes the end the best. I.E. The Last Blade 2 and Garou on Neogeo.

If Nintendo stops making consoles, I will definitely become a classic gamer perminently at that point. Sony and Microsoft will not get my money again (well...except in computers and DVD players).

I like the rumor of Nintendo and Microsoft teaming up. The GC and the XBOX compliment each other very well as far as game genres go, IMO. If they got together they would have an impressive library.

Neph - I'm actually gonna go out on a limb and say that this realistic Zelda will rock my world. Why? Because every single console Zelda title that's been released has risen above my expectations. I can just tell by looking at these screenshots that this upcoming Zelda wont fail.

Winter - I'm not sure about Nintendo switching to just handhelds. Even if they are less successful in the console market, they still know they have plenty of fans that still buy their consoles. Besides, GC isn't doing all that bad...I thought I heard that it's overtaken Xbox? Could be wrong.

True, true. I'm going to go with Retro though and go out on a limb as well. :D

It's still too far away though to really be drooling over it though, I'll give you that. The game I'm actually anticipating most right now is Halo 2. It's a li'l more tangible, you know? :)

Man, it's Zelda, of course it's gonna kick the crap out of the competition. That's like saying the next Final Fantasy isn't gonna deliver. X2 showed us that was possible, but it was still a great game despite some odd concept choices. With Zelda you can expect it's gonna rise above the rest, or at lthe very least be a very fun and involving game.

That's what I meant. That although the characters and themes of the game were super-lame, it was still a well-made game, and those who could look past the odd concept, found it had all the elements that they enjoyed in other FF's.

I think Nintendo had a good showing at this years E3. I know the best looking stuff was mostly sequels, like Metroid Prime 2, Zelda, Paper Mario 2, and etc. but I'm looking forward to these games all the same. I'm pretty sure that Nintendo has beaten out Microsoft for the number 2 spot sales-wise, so I'd say they are doing pretty good.

The DS is a little strange though.....touchpad? Strange. But this isn't the place to start that conversation.....
