ESRB

I'm not talking 12 year olds playing gta. I'm just saying what I previously stated. If a 16 year old kid can be trusted with a 2000 lb vehicle, he should be allowed to see a lil blood in a video game.

on that note, finally! someone who agrees! i tell my mom this all the time. if i can drive a car at 65 mph, i can play bioshock

I played the Genesis version of Mortal Kombat II when I was like...10 or something. No one in my family really cared about any of that stuff. :lol

lol, No problems with that in Jersey. You can't actually drive without another driver in the car till you're 17. God, the state I live in is so damn weird. >:(

I would love to see the ESRB throw in another rating (screw the E10 crap they just made, which is perhaps the stupidest rating I've ever seen them have) that's like 15+. I mean, honestly, does anyone think a game like Halo, where you see some blood when you shoot someone (usually purpleish blood no less...), realistically so, deserves an M rating. Games like that should get a rating that is kind of a middle ground between T and M. Also, T should be 12+, and M, 16+, like it is in Europe...

Uh, no, it isn't. Which is easier? Picking up a gun or calling someone a "poophead"?

Better yet, which is easier for a 6 year old to do? Shoot someone, have sex, or call someone a bad name?

I wasn't stating it was easier to shoot someone. I said shooting someone was a question of morality, just like cussing.

Don't take my statements out of context again.

Yeah, OoT pulled an E even though it had blood. And before you say it just had one bit, it was a lot more prominent. I don't know many people in Halo 2 who watch the remains and look for the blood.

Actually...the blood's really noticable in Halo...especially with online. When you have a bunch of people in one area blowing the bajeesus out of eachother, blood's left all over the ground. :lol

Halo is on the mild end on the M spectrum. It should be rated M, I'm not arguing that. The Flood can have limbs blown off and look pretty messed up. The language isn't that bad, but it is very violent and (when the Flood are involved) gory.

yeah, halo has its fair amount of blood, but its only noticable in online play, which isnt even rated by the esrb. notice the 'game experience may change during online play' message.

Hines-- you misunderstand the reason for that message. That is there simply because it is an online game with other people online. Essentially, ESRB is saying "Don't get mad at us if someone online cusses you out on Live".

You are right in that is what they mean, but the fact that they put that message basically makes it so that any content present in an online game will not affect its rating, so the fact that Halo has more blood online really shouldn't be factored into the rating, because that would be contradictory to a marking on the box...

But the difference is that there is no actual coding that creates more blood online--it's just the fact that there are more players, and, consequentially, more deaths which equals more blood. That is all it is. You will get the same amount of blood in a 16 player online match as you would in a 16 player System Link match. All of the blood ratings are correct on the box.

Example: Another game that I play, Metroid Prime: Hunters, says the "Game Experience May Change During Online Play" in the introduction, and had no blood, save for some small enemies in Single Player (and it wasn't blood, just colored chunks that flew up in the air for about half a second). This is because you can still add Friend Codes and chat with people, or even player usernames can contain objectionable content and it is not the ESRB's fault if it goes above the rating's stated content information. Another game on the DS as well, Mario Kart DS, has no blood or violence at all, but still has the "Game Experience May Change During Online Play" statement. Why here? Two words: 1. names, and 2. emblems. Customizeable content that may contain objectional items.

The "Game experience may change during online play" is just a disclaimer. They're just covering their butts so they're not liable for some renegade hacker or unforeseen expansion.

Too Strict?

What is your view on how video game content is rated as opposed to Movie ratings.I find that video game ratings tend to be a little on the strict side, how about you?

God bless.
