Ether net cord problems?

Hey, um i cannot get my ether net cord for xbox live to work on my vista laptop, but i can get it to work on my xx desktop. I get it to work every now and then on the vista, but not always, can someone explain why please?
 
Could very well be a faulty cord. I had this happen to me when I was first installing DSL. I could not get my "Ethernet" light to show up on the modem, but as soon as I tried another cord it worked fine. So, yes, although rare, it can happen!
 
An Ethernet cable is a low voltage cable made up of eight copper conductors. It transfers information via electrons Vs. light in the case of fiber optics. You might have something wrong with the cable. Test it out by trying another cable. If that doesn't work you have a problem with you network card on your computer or issues with your settings.
