Fable sells big

September 23, 2004 - Microsoft Game Studios has reason to be proud: Today it announced that Fable, the beautiful and expansive Xbox-only RPG developed under the care of Peter Molyneux, has already broken records in its first week of sales.

Fable sold more than 375,000 units during its initial week of release (which translates into about $18.7 million gross). To offer some perspective, in one week that's about half the number of units Knights of the Old Republic sold in its first six months.

As for record breaking, Fable was had the biggest first-week sales at EB Games of any Xbox title, ever. At Game Rush, it broke first-week records for any game. And, in a delicious statistic, Fable grossed more in its first week than the film Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Take that, Jude Law!

Could this be one of the biggest hits in the Xbox's history? That remains to be seen, especially with heavy contenders like Halo 2 still to emerge. But without a doubt, Big Blue Box's unique RPG is doing very well. Very well, indeed.

I haven't seen anyone trade in Fable yet, so I'm guessing that those who bought it like it. :)

I heard from somebody that bought there's in the Marion, OH Gamestop that one was traded in...though I kinda think he was looking at one of them displays they set up showing how much a person would get if ithey were to trade it in. He said it was marked $45.

I like most of it so far. But a complaint I have is you age too fast. My guy is 42 and has snow white hair.

And I have only played for a few hours.

Well the age cap is 65, so Spartan doesn't have a long ways to go before he's done. :(

But supposedly there's some way you can turn back time in the game. I don't know the details though.

My guy is one ugly dude. He has I'd say 12 long scars on his face. He looks creepy, with his blue eyes and white hair. I still have my original outfit :D

I like the game, and my character also has snowy white hair. I think I'm around 42 as well...

You age like .7 years everytime you level up a skill, and there are ways to get 20 years of your life back.

No, not really.  I never heard of anyone dying of old age though, so I guess it's alright.  I haven't really noticed much of the aging process (other than the year gets higher) since my character's still strong and kills stuff easily :D

Haven't played recently. Been busy or tired. But I fully intend on getting a chainmail outfit as soon as it doesn't break my financial back.

I have chainmail and bright chainmail (might have dark too, but doubt it). I just recently married the mayor (Lady Grey) and am trying to get enough money to buy the one shop after the shopkeep followed me into the wilderness and fell onto my sword...

Hey, it wasn't my fault! Honest! :p

Fable would have been liked alot more if BBB had promised less. They ended up cutting out a whole bunch of things. Over at GameFAQs many people were mad about that.

Fable is a good game, but far too short.
They should never have called it an RPG, because it quite clearly isn't.
It's more of an Action/Adventure than an RPG.

I've actually got the game... but I prefer to play Disgaea on the PS2 instead! lol

Yes, that it would.

And I wholeheartedly agree that it's too short. Even playing around with the people doesn't take up as much time as it should. Hopefully they come out with a DLC or a free disk to everyone who bought Fable with tons of new things to do. That's the rumor (and an accurate rumor it is).

If you use no magic at all your guy will not age so quickly, at least in appereance, in other words your hair will not go grey or white as fast. I have beaten the game 4 times so far with completely different types of characters, and when I played an all out mage..putting every bit of my leveling up towards only will, and a few in health and toughness..my guy had white hair at around age 37 or so. He also developed light blue natural tatoos all over his body kinda like the Maze character, and he had a permanent blueish glow around his hands.

On this flip side I played a straight fighter never using any magic at all, and never leveling up any will stats, and my guys hair didn't get gray until he was close to 46 or so. He also became very big and muscular, especialy his arms.

There are two ways to gain youth back in the game, although it doesn't give you 20 years, its more like 8-10 years. They both invovle the two temples..the Temple of Avo and the Temple of Skorm. I don't wanna ruin the game for anyone..but if you want to know how to do it just ask me and I'll lay out the details.
