Fanboyism

I know Im taking a risk here by starting this kind of topic but I feel that we shouldnt lose the fun factor that we have here and keep the tensions low. Remember these are just games and games are meant to be fun. So should be discussing them.

Now first off Im well aware that there are people on this board that might have, or already have, labeled me a Nintendo fanboy. That's cool, no big deal, I dont care. But I will support Nintendo just as much as I support Sony and even MS. Ive said this many times that Im a game fan first and foremost and Im hoping all of you are as well. So I just want to know, am I wrong for supporting Nintendo? Am I supposed to go with the flow and just support the popular systems? I understand that some of you actually want Nintendo to hang it up, but what does that accomplish? Are they saturating the entire video game market? Are they forcing you to buy their consoles? Ok those were just some general questions. So this is for you guys to vent against ANY SYSTEM but make sure it's constructive critiscm and no personal flaming. Everybody's opinions will be respected unless it goes against the rules of the boards.

there is one thing i hold against sony.....sony is responsible for the death of sega...i will never forget that sony...never.ok,i have vented :)

I'm a Sega fanboy, thank god, because when systems are alive. It gets ugly...

The US market is extremely biased imho. Just walk into any GameStop, GameCrazy, EB Games, etc. etc....and look how they display their Sony and Mircosoft products. Ask for Nintendo, and it's in the back of the store, treated like garbage pretty much. GBA Section is getting the same way, thanks to Nintendo DS.

Yet I have seen some stores (minor percentage) that do praise Nintendo. Yet it's pretty much a needle in a hay stack.

Now, Fanboyism. How are they effecting this? Simply by consumer reports and sales representives questioning those employees "What product is selling the best?" and such. Gained from those numbers and answers, is how each of these corporates will design their store. Each layout is pretty much the same....PS2 up front....Xbox Middle....GameCube in the back...or PS2 to the left...Xbox to the right....and Cube in the back...

Quite sad...but it's really the consumer to blame for what is "hot" and what is "not". Yet they are the backbone in this industry, regardless if they are a fanboy, gamer, or average consumer.

What am I? I like what offers on each, I figured a long time ago, why fight "Exclusive" titles when I can have them all? So I purchased all three systems.

Nobody is that lucky, so what is a fanboy to do? Go with his/her best interest pretty much. If you are loyal to one company, just stick with your guns and keep it to yourself. Yet, it's not that easy when you can be out numbered a majority of the time.

For example, a Nintendo fanboy walks into a Sony loving gamestore....Is he A) Screwed? B) Well aware of this and tries to fight back? or C) Keep your mouth shut, buy your item, and get the HELL out?

Bold and Brave people would go with B, but it will get ugly...

Obvious people with go with A, ignore them and just move...with getting some harassment on the side

Cautious people would choose C, play it cool, play dumb, and after the mindless advice they give you about how great their system is, just purchase your Nintendo game and walk out....

It is always your right to choose, but many people tend to forget, does it make you happy? When you purchase that one game, was it for yourself? or just to be cool like your friends who have this exact same game as well? The only benefit you will ever get from a game, is making sure this is exactly what YOU and no one else wants. For you have to please yourself before others I think.

The only real complaint about Microsoft is they are making a system that is a computer for your TV. If I'm not mistaken, they openly said they are trying to take over your living room (or maybe I just mixed the message up from what the article I heard).

I do have some serious problems about EA though. They bought out some of the best companies, like Westwood and 3DO, just to produce more sports games and a lot more games that are quite honestly crap. Yes, there are good ones from EA, but that usually comes when they hire guys from one of the comapnies they bought out, like Westwood, and have them work on it.

But I must say, although I am more towards being a Nintendo fanboy, I still support all the systems. Mostly cuz I am looking for new innovations that could come along. Sure, I don't understand why everyone goes nuts over some things, but hey, everyone is different. Perhaps sometime my own my own views on things creates some frustration and tension, bu tnot like anyones perfect either.

In short, games are for entertainment, as it has been said before. Why should we be getting at each others throats over them?

I very much dislike how Nintendo fans see themselves as the only "enlightened, open-minded" gamers when in fact they are just like every Sony and Microsoft fan. I don't understand why they think that the only reason people don't like Nintendo is because they have submitted to some marketing campaign or to the wills of their friends. They assume other systems are popular because they pander to the lowest common denominator, and corrupt what Nintendo tried to create. When in reality they simply provide something that Nintendo doesn't, something that people want. People have different tastes, accept it. If retailers are making more sales on PS2 and Xbox games, you better believe the Cube is gonna get shunned. Why would they advertise something that people don't want?

Ok that's over generalizing, not all Nintendo fans are like that, it just seems like the vast majority are.

I also don't understand why some people take it personally when their system of choice is under criticism. If they like it, what the hell do they care about other people's opinions? If they can, then they should defend their own opinions. If they don't feel the need to defend them, then they should simply take it in stride. If they can't defend their opinions, then perhaps its time to re-evaluate why they have the opinion they do.

It seems to me that people think about videogames as more than just a cheap (or sometimes not so cheap) source of fun. They think of it as an "art form," or some kind of pure, uncorrupted entity that is a physical extension of their own being. So when I say "X system/game is dumb" I get a bunch of backlash and negative feedback even though I provided valid reasons and opinions. Sometimes I just want to say "chill the *heck* out" cuz it really isn't that big a deal to me, and if anything I say what I do to try and provoke arguements from the other side that help me understand why people don't agree with me.

*whew* is that ever a load off...

:lol haha, Im glad. That was the whole point of this topic. I guess you know more people than me because I dont know anybody who thinks that they are better or more enlightened because they like Nintendo. It's just another system. But in my opinion the casual gamer far outnumbers the hardcore ones and when you see people like Snoop Dogg and other famous celebrities saying how much they like the playstation, well then it does become a popularity contest. Not there is anything wrong with that because the PS1 and 2 are awsome machines that deserve every praise. So in a way it does pander to the lowest common denominator. Ive said it before and Ill say it again, these are just video games, they are not serious important matters. Video games are meant to be fun and so should discussing them.

of all the video game powers, none had greater sway on me than Sega....verily,the light of the Saturn is not dimmed in my eyes..so i for one do not think that Nintendo fans are the only enlightened ones among gamers....there are also the Sega fans :)

I have always tried to treat othe rsystems fairly, but it does urk me when someone gets right up in my face saying "This system is the best and thats all there is to it". I mean, I would say I am a Nintendo fanyboy (I may or may not have said that before) but I get irritated when people say that even Nintendo is the best and there is no other.

And when you get the big celebrities turning the systems into a popularity contest, that bugs me a bit too. For some people, it goes from "Might get that system cuz I like it and it seems to have some good things about it" to "I'm gonna get a different system cuz the big celebrity said he/she liked it, so it will make me cool and whatever."

Oh well, like stealth toilet said, people should like what they want and not care about others' opinions.

I don't like fanboys who haven't tried the other systems. If you have honestly given all systems a chance and you realize, "Hey, I like the Gamecube better for x reason" that's cool. But if all you have ever owned is the Gamecube and you've never even played a friend's PS2 or XBOX and all you do is spout Nintendo fanboyisms, that's definitely not cool. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it!

But on the flip side of the coin, I also don't like how people can't understand why I like Nintendo when I have an XBOX and a PS2. Some people are like, "With all that Sony has to offer, why are you a Nintendo fangirl?" or "With all that Microsoft has to offer, why are you a Nintendo fangirl?" To quote stealth, people have different tastes; accept it. I am not brainwashed by Nintendo and I don't understand why people think that. I have played many games on many different systems and the fact of the matter is just that my personal taste runs towards Nintendo games. And unlike what some people might think, that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy games made by other companies. My favorite game to this day is still Tales of Symphonia, a game made by Namco.

Okay, my two cents worth...

Me?? I consider myself a fence dweller. I like to see what each system has to offer and base my choise on whar I see, and also how deep my pockets are at the time.

I honestly ignore the people who trash talk one system because "it sucks." And I also get a kick out of asking the sales clerk at the game stores questions about games for odd or obscure systems. It helps me know where they stand. I typically ask for Neo Geo stuff, knowing that they won't have anything in stock. If they look at me like I am nuts, I walk. If they give me an answer like, "Wow. We never get anything like that." Then I know that the guy I am dealing with has some sort of unbiased opinions.

As for putting GC stock in the back of a store because of an opinion that nobody wants it is utterly insane. I work in retail. And I display stock up front that I know doesn't make money, or the quality is much lower. But I also have the attitude that every customer that walks in that door should buy the most expensive item that they can afford. So if a 13 year old walks into the door of a Game Stop and has enough cash from his birthday to snatch up a GC and a game, then he shouldn't have to walk to the back of the store to get it.

Wow. I'm finding all kinds of recent topics that I haven't seen yet...

I don't like Nintendo because they refused to make advancements this generation that Sony and Microsoft did offer. I wasted so much money on a dead-end system...

One of my friends does that, because I don't like the Xbox and Xbox 360. He uses the Xbox as an excuse to openly abuse me.
Which, in context, doesn't seem funny, but it actually is.

That's because monkies tend to like only one kind of fruit while people like variety :) Being picky can lead to being narrowminded

Nintendo is the secret God of the video game world. It hides in the background and lets Sony and X-Box have the spotlight but when Sony and X-Box die, Nintendo will still be alive.
