Square-Enix denies EGMs FFVII Confirmation

E3 2005 raised a lot of speculation when Sony revealed the Final Fantasy VII tech demo for the PlayStation 3. The demo featured what the 1997 hit, Final Fantasy VII would look like if it were to be a PS3 title. Despite it just being a tech demo and not a full out trailer, speculation still increased as gamers believe Square-Enix with conjunction to Advent Children is working on a Final Fantasy 7 remake for the PlayStation 3.

IGN managed to speak with Square-Enix themselves to get the information on this situation and this is what they had to say;

"Since the FINAL FANTASY VII tech demo at E3 2005, there have been a lot of rumors about the presentation hinting at an actual remake. While the June 2006 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly confirms the remake for release in 2007, Square Enix has never stated this.

We have however confirmed that development has begun for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII on PlayStation 3. These titles are part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Project which also includes a titled FINAL FANTASY Agito XIII."

This still doesn't resolve the issue either way, but it does support the side leaning towards improbable.

Make of it what you will.

Though it would be nice to have a remake, I think they should just keep printing old copies so the price will go down. Seriously, Amazon.com, the lowest price for FFVII was 52 dollars! The rest were around twelve! It was unbelievable!

Now, now children that is against the forum rules. :)

Maybe not against the rules but last I checked BV doesn't want any transactions of any kind between members using his board to do so for liability reasons.

You never say never, but I think in this instance they will. Wouldn't it be better for them to make a "sequel" to continue the storyline?

Yeah thats perfect but they'd have to package the original right? haha

Not necessarily. I mean how many people have not tried or played the original? Ten? :D :lol

But a lot of people are upset that they sold it a long time ago and now they want it back :'(

I would love to see a remake. What's getting old to me is these new sissy main characters they're introducing with all the new FF. Make the world proud and make FFVII...spend 5 years making the game. I don't care. As long as they get it right.

I hate remakes, but if it's the exact same game with PS3 graphics, I'd be too tempted.

But seriously, how hard is it to make NEW games that don't suck these days?

I got mine for 15 bucks from a.....hold on....here it comes.....AN ACTUAL VIDEOGAME STORE!!! Sorry about that. anyway, a remake would be cool, but ten people would keep asking for more and it would just get old. Come on, we already have the spinoffs and two movies!! Even though it would be fun to make Advent Children a game. If they did remake FFVII would it all fit on 1 blu-ray disc? I would think so. The game should use FFX's battle system. It's alot better then the others.

This sounds kinda pathetic, but I started playing the game when it was new and still haven't beat it. That's cuz it was only a demo disc, and I spent probably 4 or 5 years looking for the actual game. Then the one I got was scratched so I couldn't play any farther. Then the next one was "borrowed" and supposedly left in some other state. And now I lent my newst copy to someone else (more trusting) and can't play it. *Sigh*

But I still love the game. I would love to see a new version with updated graphics and some other goodies, like little easter eggs and extras. But if its a no go, oh well, at least there was a FF VII at all.
