Finally got a Neo Geo CD!
I got a Japanese Neo Geo CD, with box and manual, a rectangular style stick, small gamepad, Samuri Spirit, KoF 95 (with spine card), and Neo Geo Special CD.
The system is in excellent condition, with a few minor scratches on one of the sides, the top and front are flawless. The games are all in normal condition, though I was surprised to get a spine card. The arcade stick is pretty scratched up, and the ball on the stick is cracked. The small gamepad is in flawless condition.
I received the unit 6 days after winning the auction on eBay, which shocked me, since the item was in Tokyo. I told the seller I would only bid on it if I got two arcade style sticks, which he agreed to, but didn't deliver. Not much I can really do, since I got everything advertised in the auction...
I also purchased a nice S-Video cable. I wanted to get a monster cable, but could not find a S-Video/stereo cable from them. I ended up buying a really nice set made by Philips (gold plated, thick, quality cable). I have a 26" widescreen Samsung HDTV, and an older JVC stereo (those "Giga-Tube" ones).
Anyway, fired the thing up and was pretty pleased. Glad I splurged on some nice cables because I got an excellent picture on my TV
Fired up KoF95 and was genuinely impressed. The game kicked my butt, but the arcade stick felt great, and controls were butter smooth, just need to get better at 2D fighting games
Samuri Spirits was far better. Though I couldn't understand a lick of the text, the scaling effects were excellent, and I got along with the controls better.
Overall, I'm quite satisfied, can't wait to sit down and spend some quality time with each title. I assume Neo Geo Special is just a demo disc, someone please correct me if I am wrong!
More impressions to come later!
