Why is it that a 360 and a PS3 can play games online, but not be able to double as a computer for full internet capability? My guess is it would cost too much. How about you?

It's designed to play games.

Because you would find it seriously lacking, in terms of power, if the console's processors were working on anything but playing games.

Thanks for replying Homicidal, and you to Hines.I was just thinking, would it be fair to say that another reason would be that these companies don't want to lose money on the PC because people would just buy the PS3 and use it as a hard drive?

God bless.

The PS3 does have the capability to do that. Hell, you can put Linux on it and have yourself a full compy.

Is it really a full version of Linux? I thought it was stripped down a bit to run on the PS3.

Full versions. There are two specific ones. PSUbuntu and Yellow Dog. Yellow Dog is for the people that have HDTV's unless you use the commands "installtext" and "ydl480i".

Ubuntu Linux includes GNU/Linux components such as the Linux kernel proper, as well as other free/open-source technologies such as Apache, PostgreSQL, and Python. The distribution also includes user applications, such as the Mozilla Firefox Web browser, OpenOffice.org, Evolution, Rhythmbox, Pidgin, and GIMP.
