I put best arcade game of the year, cuz I don't really know of any. Best Licensed track, because it seems too specific, and best control, as I believe a game's excellence in control will be a major factor in it being the best game in it's respective genre/console.

Edit: Oh, I don't know if you care or not, but it's spelled Category with an e instead of an a, at least I think that's how it is...

Best Effects, because that may as well go with Best Graphics, Best Liscensed Soundtrack, for the same reason as stealth, and Best Writing for the same reason as trkorecky.

I only used two votes, because I couldn't think of a third thing that shouldn't be in there.

My first vote - I don't think we need a category for arcade games. Not too many arcades that I know of get new games in often, and when they do it's usually just some variation of DDR.

Second vote - Best graphics...I feel that this kind of vote only reinforces the idea that graphics are the most important part of a game, which IMO is not the case. If graphics were that important, everyone would own high-end PCs or XBOXs, and the Game Boy would never have been successful.

Wow, you guys surprise me. Removing Best arcade is like..well its insane. The arcade is where alot of the games start out at before coming to home systems, not to mention its where the whole videogame "thing" began and took off from. Thats like killing of the roots of gaming all together.

Well, I didn't vote for Best Arcade...but it may be wise if that one gets knocked off. Not dis-respecting Arcade games, but people may not know what to nominate as they aren't sure what came out this year...I certinally haven't got a clue besides Tekken 5.

Yes but were just talking about the best game of the year, not every arcade game.

Well, I realize that. But of all the scores of games that came out this year in the arcade, surely one can be named the best...right?

Not that it really matters, but I think best graphics has just as much a right to be a category as best sound, or best story. The look of a game is extremely important, if you don't believe me then just remember all the Cel-da threads that were started. People should be rewarded for creating something that looks amazing and strikes a chord with the audience. It is, after all, a videogame.

You have a point.

But then again, Wind Waker turned out to be a great game. Yes, it got a little tedious near the end, but that had nothing to do with the graphics. It would have felt as tedious had the graphics been realistic. It just seems like people like to single out the fact that it's cel-shaded as the reason why they don't like it. IMO, if they were real Zelda fans they would at least give it a try first before dismissing it as "stupid" or "kiddy" so easily. Like, I'm ok if someone played it and didn't like it, but if they've never played it and say they don't want to because it's cel-shaded and they think it looks "kiddy" or "gay"...that's what I'm not cool with.

Personally, I love cel-shading. My favorite game for graphics this gen would either be Wind Waker, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, or Tales of Symphonia.

Well, that wasn't my point. The fact that the graphics split Zelda fans into two unagreeable groups proves that graphics are important, regardless of whether one side is right or not.

Once again, not that it really matters, but the graphic style did take away from the game. Honestly, who saw the Spaceworld 2000 demo and then saw WW graphics and said "YES! THAT IS SOO MUCH COOLER, THAT GAME'S GONNA RULE!". Very few, if any at all. At the very most people said "well, I'll keep an open mind and play it before I judge it." but most people were shocked and appauled and a little dissapointed that Nintendo decided to take the franchise in that direction. I myself felt extremely cheated because I bought my GC after seeing the Spaceworld demo thinking that the new Zelda would be worth the cost of my GC alone. And then I found out Nintendo wanted to "innovate". Had I not already owned a GC by that point I would have bought a PS2 and GTA3 and I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

I think I lost my point somewhere in there, so I'll say it here. No one would have been dissapointed if they didn't cel-shade Zelda. When people saw the Spaceworld 2000 demo they didn't say "I wish Link looked more like a 12 year old cartoon boy.", and that's a fact.

I think I'm lucky. I never saw the Spaceworld demo. :p

But also, I bet there's some people who ignored Four Swords Adventure as well, and not just because of the connectivity. There were some that didn't like the graphics of that, either. Personally, I also really enjoy FSA.

Although Four Swords was fun, I would never have bought it. It was a solid game, but I hate mandatory connectivity (I would much prefer mandatory online) and the graphics on it were a deterrance. I'm sorry, but I like good graphics, lol.
