Offical GDC 2009 thread

http://kotaku.com/5158593/ico-creator-speaks-at-game-developers-conference

With ICO and Shadow of the Colossus creator Fumito Ueda speaking at this year's Games Developers Conference, could the show play host to the reveal of his next game?

Fumito Uedo will be on hand at the 2009 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month to speak on a panel on evolving game design, along with Goichi Suda of No More Heroes and Killer 7 fame and Fallout 3 lead designer Emil Pagliarulo. Just getting those three minds into one room is exciting enough, but it raises the possibilities that the new PlayStation 3 game from Team Ico could be revealed at the show.

Last we heard regarding the next ICO game was back before the Tokyo Game Show last year, when Uedo said that the game would be shown sometime soon. Is next month sometime soon enough for you guys?

This year's Game Developers Conference will feature a presentation by two Japanese game designers who even Atsushi Inaba probably finds noteworthy: Team Ico's Fumito Ueda and Grasshopper Manufacture's Goichi Suda, aka Suda 51. The Shadow of the Colossus creator and the man behind No More Heroes will join Fallout 3 lead designer Emil Pagliarulo and localization company 8-4's Mark MacDonald for the panel discussion "Evolving Game Design: Today and Tomorrow, East and West Game Design."

Re: Offical GDC 2009 thread

New Ico? They've been saying that since last year. It'll be great if its true, but I'm not banking on it.

I'm actually quite excited for GDC this year. Out of all the video game trade shows and conventions, GDC is quite possibly my favorite one. Its incredible to hear what pioneers in the field envision for the next few years, and to hear them talk about the potential of the medium as they understand it. It really cultivates a sense of appreciation for what it is game designers actually do, and how hard, rare, and beautiful it is to see an idea realized to its fullest.

Joy. :D

The biggest juiciest question is: WILL SONY FINALLY ANNOUNCE A PS3 PRICE DROP!?

So far here's the low down on other related news:

The folks behind Resistance 2 will be on hand to discuss Resistance 2 map packs and what's to come for both cooperative play and mulitplayer gaming.
and
A crew of former members of Incognito, are hard at work on a new take on Warhawk. Simply described as "Warhawk in Space!"

Who wants to see NINJA GAIDEN SIGMA 2 in action!? Here we have some new details on what the game has, including the playable character: Ayane from Dead or Alive!

At a press conference in the Metreon, Tecmo announced Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 as a Playstation 3 exclusive coming Fall 2009. According to Team Ninja, the game will be an encapsulation of elements found in past Ninja Gaiden iterations.

"Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 will be the total package, the ultimate one, incorporating everything through the Ninja Gaiden series," says Yosuke Hayashi, Team Ninja's director and producer. He reiterated the "encapsulation" theme several times in the conference, citing characters from the last five Ninja Gaiden games as examples of NG Sigma 2's heritage, including Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword.

Ayane, a fighter from Dead or Alive, Team Ninja's fighting game, appeared in a trailer as a playable character. In the trailer, a kunai marked with a purple ribbon flew across the screen at a ninja's chest. With the kunai stuck in his chest, the ninja slumps to the ground. As smoke emits from the tip of the kunai, the camera slowly backs out, and Ayana, framed against the moon, leaps onto the streets.

Today Iwata speaks, large focus on the DSi and Wii's 50 million worldwide sales. Maybe Iwata will mention what they will do with all the leftover DS Lites? Also, it seems Punch-Out on Wii will utilize the Wii balance board.

The zelda was a nice bonus for me. Though I probably won't be getting anything they announced.

Nothing special except for those with large VC and WiiWare titles, really

Most of mine most haves from GDC all come from the third partys, like Need For Speed Shift, Split/Second, and thats it thus far.

Spirit Tracks have to keep an eye on though, I dont want to miss out on it, like I missed out on Phantom Hourglass.

PS Home to soon get a "Guitar Hero" theme area.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/gdc09-playstation-gets-new-home-space-backstage-with-guitar-he/

Sony announced in conjunction with Activision today that "Backstage with Guitar Hero" would open up tomorrow in Home. It's a Guitar Hero-themed space (dur) that looks slightly like the stage at the House of Blues merged with a backstage area. Equipment cases are piled up all over the place, and it's cavernous enough to house plenty of rhythm-based music fans.
