Games for WCG's 2008 Announced

Take from Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/368836/world-cyber-games-2008-games-announced

If you plan on competing in the World Cyber Games 2008...and even if you don't...you may be interested in hearing the full list of titles that will represent the showdown in Cologne, Germany this November. We've pasted the whole thing after the jump.

Many of you may find it fascinating that while the WCG exclude the Wii, PS3, DS and PSP for any sort of competition, mobile gaming is strongly represented with the cellphone title Asphalt 3: Street Rules. Yes, participants from 70 countries assemble once a year to play a crappy Outrun knock-off on mobile phones. That's the world we actually live in.

Official WCG 2008 PC Games:
· Half-Life®: Counter-Strike™ 1.6 (5 v. 5 Team FPS )
· Starcraft®: Brood War™: (1 v. 1 RTS)
· WarCraft® III: The Frozen Throne™ (1 v. 1 RTS)
· Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath™ (1 v. 1 RTS)
· Age of Empires® III: The Asian Dynasties (1 v. 1 RTS)
· FIFA Soccer 08 (1 v. 1 Sports)
· Need For Speed™ ProStreet (Xbox 360 in US & Canada) (1 v. 1 Racing)
· Carom3D (1 v. 1 Casual)
· Red Stone (4 v. 4 Team MMORPG)

Official WCG 2008 Xbox 360 Games:
· Halo® 3 (4 v. 4 Team FPS)
· Project Gotham Racing® 4 (1 v. 1 Racing)
· Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock (1 v. 1 Music)
· Virtua Fighter® 5 (1 v. 1 Fighting)

Official WCG 2008 Mobile Game:
· Asphalt 3: Street Rules (1 v. 1 Racing)

Gotta love how Microsoft basically paid off the WCG Boards to put the 360 as the only console in the competition. Can we please get rid of Counter Strike PLEASE!!!! Oh and WTH with the cell phone game WTG lameness.

>_> So many missed games. Not even Team Fortress 2 or Rock Band.

Halo 3 ftw...

And Rock Band wouldn't make a good tournament game...it's sole purpose is to make an awesome coop experience.

@Fhq: TF2 is really in it's infancy in the competitive market. I didn't really expect them to choose that one so soon.

Some games that they really left out besides TF2 like Fhq said: CoD4, Brawl, hell even most of the games on either DS or PSP would have been better for a mobile game.

@Hines: I agree with you on the Rock band thing but, Halo 3 isn't really Tournament friendly. Sure Halo 2 did moderate success on tournaments but, Halo 3 isn't as competitive as Halo 2 (Taken from a few pro-Halo players) it is also one of the slowest FPS games to choose from. They just have Halo 3 there because Microsoft is the biggest sponsor of WCG's and even last year they were and had Gears on the roster and god that was so horrible to watch, and it looks like Halo 3 will be the same.

That's why you do band vs band. >_> Seriously, pretty much the same exact thing as teams in any game.

Well, no, but you could easily do it with two TVs and the highest score wins. Otherwise, you could just do Score Duels with every instrument, one by one.

But still, Rock Band doesn't scream competitive. DDR would have been a better choice than either Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

There's no recent DDR game good enough. Also, does Asphalt 3 scream competitive?
