Looks like the PSP is packing some punch under the hood as it takes on Gran Turismo 4.
According to an interview with Director Kazunori Yamauchi on Sony's Japanese PlayStation site, the upcoming Gran Turismo 4 for the PSP will be a near direct translation of the PlayStation 2 title. Mr. Yamauchi stated that due to the processing power of the PSP, which can be compared to the PlayStation 2, Gran Turismo 4 and other games could nearly be a direct port over to Sony's new handheld.
When asked why Sony had decided to port the PlayStation 2 version of Gran Turismo 4 over to the PSP, Mr. Yamauchi stated that production costs for a PSP-only title would be prohibitive, thereby creating a situation where the PSP game cost would be too high. He also stated that the developer for the PSP version of Gran Turismo 4, Polyphony, would be better able to utilize their resources if they took advantage of the readily available work already completed on the PlayStation 2 version of the game.
Mr. Yamauchi stated that the release date for the PlayStation 2 version of Gran Turismo 4 is still set in 2004. However, Mr. Yamauchi did not reveal a specific date for this hotly anticipated title. source: success-hk.com
