Super Mario Kart!

Beating the long time record holder, Tetris. Mario Kart has apparently been in the home of so many across the world.

Here's a peek at the top ten

1. Super Mario Kart
2. Tetris
3. Grand Theft Auto
4. Super Mario World
5. Zelda Ocarina of Time
6. Halo
7. Resident Evil 4
8. Final Fantasy XII
9. Street Fighter II
10. GoldenEye

Nice list, but the original GTA and not GTA3? Odd indeed, unless that's a typo.

Almost everyone of these games make no sense for most influential.

Exactly.

Halo? Sure it was popular but I would say Quake and Counterstrike were actually influential, same with Goldeneye. Super Mario World? Sure it was great but I would select either the original NES Mario Bros. or Super Mario 64. Resident Evil 4? Sure it's my favorite game and actually the greatest game of all time (Fact, this not debatable.), but I would say the first RE is the most influential.

Re: Guiness Book of Records declares the most influential video game in history

Seems like they are confusing "most popular" for most influential.

Explain the influential significance of "GoldenEye"

That being said,I'm not commenting any further.Even I know this is a huge argument just waiting to blow. Please don't misunderstand me,I know I've posted a lot of the same kind.

Or even Final Fantasy XII for that matter.

EDIT: But yeah, it's believed by a lot of people and magazine and website editors (though I have a feeling not too many people here) that FFVII was one of the first games to get people involved with an RPG on an emotional level.

Influential significance of Goldeneye you say? How bout the fact that it showed that FPS's could actually work well on a console.

But the thing with FFVII is that they killed off a character. What's so influential about that? Plenty of other games did that before. Also the death in FFVII was only influential to certain people. I know many that were fine or even happy about the death.

This entire idea is stupid.

The term "influential" is extremely opinionated. What one finds influential will be something entirely different to another person. I don't see any sense at all in making a "most influential" list, because different games influence different people, and as such, different new games.

Lol that's not the only reason. Though it's better left if dropped. Cause like Kirby said, it's all opinionated.

and what of Doom?

... and I think when it puts GTA, it's generalising... which is stupid...

... I do't think that's a very good list. They've just done a check of what people own, not what seems most influencial, though, i can see why Mario Kart would be there since it's popular, but beating tetris? The time variable is too large to make this list even valid, I reckon.

No way. Not Mario Kart.....I would've said Wolfenstein or Resident Evil or anything that could've set off a revolution in gaming. But Mario Kart? Pfft....no way....
