Had Surgery Today

I haven't been formally diagnosed, but my stepmom is a dental hygenist so she gave me the lowdown on what I have. Apparently it's not that bad yet, I do have a click in my jaw, but that's from a few years back when I was punched on the right side of my face. Right now I just have trouble biting down if I have to open my mouth wide (like say, biting into a good size burger) and I have to avoid chewing gum and whatnot, otherwise my jaw gets "tired" of chewing, lol.

Funny, I got my TMJ from being punched in the jaw, no joke. It wasn't a serious fight, me and a buddy were just horsing around but he still cracked me pretty good, lol. Sounds like yours isn't too bad right now, but I'd still take it easy with stuff like beef jerky or other tough foods :)

Also because of my grinding teeth, I'm starting to get jaw alignment problems, which can cause all sorts of other problems (headaches, sore neck and shoulders, vision problems, if you can believe it).

You know what I just thought of? My brother suffers from chronic headaches, and your post just reminded me that a long time ago he had to have his jaw wired shut because he had an overbite. I wonder if maybe his jaw is not aligned properly or something. I will have to bring that theory up to him next time I see him. He's been going to so many doctors with no solution...it would be really crazy if it was his jaw.

It's possible. I went to a ton of optometrists trying to figure out why I thought I had blurry vision and they kept telling me a didn't need glasses. Turns out some nights I'd clench my jaw so tight I would end up with a sort of double vision the next day, but there was nothing actually wrong with my eyes so no optometrist could ever figure it out.

Headaches are a little more common than that, so it may be harder to pinpoint, but it's definitely worth looking into if you haven't already.

It would actually make a lot of sense to me. I mean, if he had trouble with his jaw being out of line like that. I have TJM, and it is not so bad right now, but I used to get headaches from chewing stuff. Like I could not chew gum, beef jerky or sometimes I could not even talk much without my head hurting.

I never got punched in the jaw or anything like a couple people in this thread mentioned.

Can your bro click his jaw in and out of place?
