Happy Birthday Playstation! (9.9.95) 11 years old today!

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.

11 years old and still making more fanboys then the NFL, NBA, and NHL combined.

Born from the stubborn ways of Nintendo and Sony's big fat pockets...you divided and conquered Nintendo and Sega...murdered Sega..and became a household name within a mere 3 years......Happy Birthday, you lil doom bringer!

Now excuse me while I play Silent Hill and CastleVania SOTN :lol

Man there's so much I've been through with my Playstation! I felt like I was loosing a part of me when I had to give it up to my lil' sister. Yeah Silent Hill is great on Playstation! I remember the whole walking in a building in total darkness and all you got is a little flash light that doesn't give you much light to see. I think I'll always remember this console though, so many times I've gotten in trouble over it.

Of all my consoles, I have owned my PS1 the longest. When my wife suggested that I get rid of it, I said no. When I got my PS2 that played PS1 games and everyone said I was a fool for not getting rid of it, I resisted.

So it sits proudly next to my PS2 (or will when I unpack) in all its mint condition greatness. Ready for a two hour run with Legend of Dragoon, or a race in GT2. Or a go at any other title that I am in the mood for playing...

I think my little sister broke my Playstation 'cause I have no idea where's it at. Well it was fun while it lasted when I did own it. I think my most memoriable moment with my Playstation is when I got Metal Gear Solid the day it came out and played it to death! I didn't even have a memory card at the time when I got it too, so I had to leave my Playstation on overnight for like a week just to beat the game. I beat the game without saving one time. lol

I remember two years ago Sony released a bundle pack with a really small version of the PS1 and three games for $100. I should have picked one up.

Didn't they call it "PSOne"? Playstation had tons of titles to offer in its time. They were still making games for it when PS2 was released.

$100? Shoot, should have been at Target, they sell them around $60-70 now

I think he was talking about when they were first introduced, the PSOne.

@Dart
You must love Wal-Mart! I know what you mean too with the new games and some of them aren't even greatest hits either. I wonder when they decide to take them down and make more room for PS2, 360 and other stuff? They even still have the PSOne up with a very old demo disc with Tekken 3. LOL

Actually I hate Walmart with a passion. But being that I am in a very small town, Wally World is less expensive than other grocery stores. And I can't walk around with my wife when she shops because the way she shops irritates me. And I mindlessly bounce around, but usually end up in the electronics section.

BTW, is Target still selling the PSOne?? I should pick one up. My old PS1 is, well, eleven years old. And I'd be upset if it died on me with all the games that I have saved on the PS1 memory cards...

Ah then you're correct, the launch price was $99...and later on the PSOne combo(with LCD Screen) for $150...then went down to $129.99

Man.. don't support that chain. Go to the 20 cent more per bag of lipton sides pasta other store. Even if it's corporate.. perhaps it's... less corporate? Even better, go to the locally owned store... It's just a few dollars. Stimulate local economy, otherwise you can thank Walmart when the corporations leave a debt-filled and jobless (sea-shifted) America for greener pastures.

I haven't seen a store sold PS1 for EVER... meaning a new in box system.

Yeah... some shops around here have used ones, but it's been a LOOONNNGGG time since I've seen major chains sell PS1 systems.

You SO called it on that one...

Throw a mod chip in and get a copy of the banned Thrill Kill, some FFVII and Wild 9 for a complete collection of Playstation fun from back in the day!

*claps* Well put... I avoid supporting wal-mart since they don't give benefits to employees. They leave it in the hands of the government and the tax payers to end up paying medicare, medicaid and social security to cover what they don't pay in benefits for their employees. The extra dollars at a local store will go back into your local economy instead of lining the pockets of the Walton family. If you support wal-mart instead, you'll still end up paying that money out, just in mandatory taxes instead of by choice...

Anyhow... Happy 11th, Playstation!

Umm..I think Wal-Mart still sells them, they even have a few games in the display case. I know there's tons of them in pawn shops these days.

I think I've spoken to you on this before, but I'm very much a fan of stimulating your local economy, and that goes as micro as you can manage. :-) Glad you agree.

:lol  HEY EVERYONE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MICRO ECONOMY:  www.egameaddiction.com/store It pays for this site  :lol

Bv :hat

I blame my wife for going to Wally World so much. And that I live in a town that doesn't have a mall.

I buy my games from Game Stop, Wally World (only two in my collection), Bookman's (A used book store in Tucson), And egameaddiction (plus one console, and one handheld). I try to buy my junk wherever the customer service is good. So far this site is top notch in that department. Bookman's is good for the most obscure stuff (BV, sell Master System games!!) and Game Stop is purely for convenience. It's just there. Although the manager admitted to me that their customer service sucks. His reasoning was that the middle management guys treat the store employees like crap.

So I guess I can say "Down with Walmart!!" And "Happy birthday PS1!!!"
