I am officially old

Ok, I installed DOSBox and plugged in my Gravis Gamepad Pro (USB). From there I started DOSBox and mounted the cdrom as d and the harddisk as c. I then installed Doom 2 from within DOSBox. When I started Doom 2 it detected the gamepad and allowed me to use two of the buttons.

It doesn't matter that I am 25 years old, I have officially lived to see the day that nobody cares about the games I love anymore, namely the neogeo, and old adventure games. *Sigh* They were so good while they lasted. I will always treasure them, even if nobody else does.
Nobody cares?

You have to admit Blue that even those who are interested in the Neo really are more into the selling aspect of it, and have lost interest in the active scene a long time ago. And they few who aren't into selling have their collections and thats about that. There really isn't a Neo scene anymore, or even really a NeogeoCD.net. At least, not like their use to be. And I say that with respect my friend.

Then with the DOS games, I mean no rudeness by it at all, it just seemed like a good idea for a thread, people here are a case in point. Most people generally are into the new stuff. Sierra just came out with Space Quest Collection, King's Quest Collection, and Police Quest Collection and people are like, oh well, while I am trying to buy them all up before they hit the garbage bins.

I can quite easily see where classic gaming gets all the love, and it is one word: Nintendo.

I like most classic games, including arcade, TG16, NES, Genesis, etc. I used to have an MVS system, but without a cabinet or supergun it is kind of bulky.

Nintendo are kings of keeping their old games alive though. The Neo Geo is timeles..... sure, a lot of the fan base is gone, prices are dropping, etc... but we are still fans, no?

I know Neogeocd.net has been down... part of the reason is that people stopped collecting. People sold off their collections...etc. Neogeocd.net isn't totally dead. We get A LOT of visits to there every day. But I have not had time to finish the new update... I have the new site in progress. Plus, we cannot get any permanent fans in there discussing. If you see... we had some people come by again, yet to leave because there wasn't enough activity. If people would help post up in there, I can pretty much guarantee we'd get a fanbase again. It would be small... but we would.

Another thing... markets have changed... people don't collect games like they used to... and they don't care about the game they get (condition wise), they just want something to play. Many are opting out for free roms... and everything on 1 system (IE the Neo Geo CD RMZ collection on the PSP).

There are many factors playing into it.

I'd buy the DOS collections .... I just don't have any extra cash. Where can you get them? I haven't seen them at Best Buy or anything.

Excellent points, and pretty much what I expected. It is a confirmation that once again times have changed (or maybe finally I have just realize it, lol). :lol You can get the at ebgames or gamestop, not bestbuy. However, from what I can see around here, they are just about sold out.

but my biggest point there is that a lot of it CAN be turned around (even though it might be a smaller scale) if people would talk and make discussions in the neogeocd.net, and other Neo sections.

All it takes is a few people to start doing that :) The Neo cd had no place until neogeocd.net... most people didn't care. People liked neogeocd.net, and helped contribute back in the day because there was a place dedicated to it.

When I have time (or help to do so), I will be adding more site sections and all. Plus finishing up the new neogeocd.net section.

I tried NGCD and did not like it at all due to the ridiculous load times and expensive(for an old machine) accessories. They are not the most reliable systems either.

I remember when I first started going to gaming forums I used to hear a lot of people gripe and moan about how nobody remembers the glory of arcade games. The scene that surrounded it, the wide range of people who were part of it, all the things current gamers were missing out on by not growing up at that time. I always thought those people were crazy, but now I look at kids who started playing games with the PS2 and even younger kids whose first console is a Wii or 360 and I can't help but feel they'll never understand what it was like to play SMB:3 or Golden Axe or even Ocarina of Time.

I suppose that's always the way of it, but that doesn't mean I can't gripe about it too. :D

Yeah I know what you mean on that one Stealth. I remember saving up for a month as a kid and running down to the local Golf n' Stuff and spending a whole day in the arcades. The last time I went to a particular one, we were getting ready to move, and my mom gave me a $20 bill. I was there all friggin' day hacking it up on games like 1942, Golden Axe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-Men, etc. Those were the days.

And on days that I couldn't go, I had my NES and a pile of games to keep me company.
