I Hate Nintendo

Man, I had this great post all typed up and then the forum went down for maintenance. :(

Well I think I will try to repeat the gist anyway.

Honestly, could they have made it any sissier!? Make them soldiers, or some kind of intimidating animals, or just give the pikmin guns or swords, anything!

No offense s_t but to me this just looks like you are joining those legions of mainstream gamers who mistakenly believe that a game is only good if it's "cool," and that it's only "cool" if it has guns and/or blood. Or if it's rated M. Or just generally made by any company other than the "kiddy" Nintendo.

To which I can only reply:

It's not the games that need to be more mature, it's the gamers. Some gamers need to realize that maturity is not based on playing M-rated titles. You can be just as childish and immature as a person whether you play Pokemon or Silent Hill.

The M-rating is based on possibly objectionable content in a game and not the state of mind of those who play it. (If you notice, there's just as many little kids who want to be cool playing M-rated games as there are adults playing M-rated games). If some gamers would realize this, problem solved.

There's nothing wrong with Nintendo making games that feature an E-rating, which simply means the content within them is suitable for everyone and that is all it means. It's kind of like a PG-13 movie like Shrek 2, where it's supposedly aimed at kids and yet a lot of adults enjoy it as well (and honestly, what kid watching Shrek 2 is old enough to get the OJ Simpson reference they make?).

Nintendo should continue making the great games that put them on the map and not bend to support the closed-minded who only buy games according to the rating and what their buds think about it.

I hate to do this, but I must counter that logic.

A lot of games that are more adult orientated.. just haven't done that well... or aren't as fun.

besides.... Pikmin was done just right IMO.... I don't think they could have made it better really.

Haha... that's why the Grand Theft Auto series has done SOOO well, right? :P

what about manhunt?

Can I ask that no one speaks of that game again? That was quite possibly the WORST game ever devised by human beings. I'm still disappointed that I wasted money on that piece...

Sorry, had to vent my hatred towards such horrid things, hope I didn't offend anyone who actually manages to like that game...

Worse than Aqua Man?

I as well had a post all typed up that was erased when the forums went down. For shame BV... :lol

I had some retort for this that Grindspine basically said. Games like Splinter Cell, Metal Gear, Halo, GTA, and the like are doing very well, especially compared to the sales that games like Pikmin are getting. And as for this "not as fun" comment, I can only rebutt by saying that more gamers are choosing games that are adult oriented over games that are aimed at younger kids. So, in your opinion, they're not as fun, but the majority of gamers disagree with you.

You say that like its a bad thing. Games are popular because they're fun, they're not fun because they're popular. If playing videogames that appeal to a lot of people makes me a mainstream gamer, then yes, I can proudly say I am. Why would I limit myself to unpopular games that no one wants to play?

an E-rating, which simply means the content within them is suitable for everyone and that is all it means

And G rated movies are for "general audiences", but they are still being aimed at younger kids. Nintendo tries to appeal to a younger audience, plain and simple. That doesn't mean they don't make good games, it just means the content of the game will be aimed at kids. That's not a bad thing, but I'd rather play something that was made with someone my age in mind. Therefore, if Pikmin had been a bit more "mature" I'd have probably enjoyed it more. As well, it would have appealed more to older gamers, and broadened Nintendo's fanbase a bit.

Nintendo should continue making the great games that put them on the map and not bend to support the closed-minded who only buy games according to the rating and what their buds think about it.

Yes, God forbid Nintendo actually try to appeal to a different audience. The reason behind their "E-everyone" philosophy is not to create something pure and innocent in a corrupt mainstream gaming industry. Their logic is that by making the game available to purchase by people of any age, they don't narrow a game's potential to sell. What they don't realize is that this strategy isn't working anymore. If they want to grow as a business (which they've stated many times that they want to) then they are going to have to start making games for "mainstream gamers who buy games based on ratings and what their buds think about it."

I'm not trying to be a more "mature" person by playing games that I enjoy. The fact is, I like controlling an army of 100 soldiers a lot more than controlling an army of little cutesy plants.

:lol
my army of 100 pikmin can take your army of 100 soldiers :)

Fear thy hypnotizing flower!

and if you want to control 100 soldiers, that type of game is not located on a console (or they suck for consoles).  I get all those type of games for the PC.  Unfortunately, the PC rocks all ther other consoles in terms of graphics, and adult oriented games.

Just curious stealth... why did your opinions change? You were on the other side of this about 6 months ago.

nothing wrong in what you like... play what you have fun with :) but Nintendo's games were great (you thought) a few months back.

There's one thing I will concede:

Nintendo's own games this gen haven't been as good as last gen, especially WW compared to OoT and Double Dash compared to MK64.

But with that said, WW and Double Dash are still better than 90% of what's out there. An average Zelda is still better than the best of what other companies are putting out. At least IMO.

And the original stuff they have done this gen, like Pikmin, Golden Sun, Animal Crossing (new in US anyway), Advance Wars, etc. is awesome.

I wonder how a game that plays just like Pikmin, except with an army of little soldiers would play... Like little green army men or something... :D

kind of like Army men RTS or whatever it is?

or maybe Goblin commander? Good game, but it was a commercial failure (sort-of)

Goblin Commander actually really interested me, but its too much of a gamble to buy and I couldn't find it to rent.

I'm not really sure exactly when it happened, but I basically realized that all the games I was interested in were on either Xbox or PS2. Looking through my GC games, I just have no desire to play any of them. Well, I'll still pop in SSB:M every now and then, and NBA Street is a good way to kill time, but every other game I own I really don't think I'll ever play again. I also just kind of noticed that there were a lot of games I owned that I never played enough to get my money's worth. Games like MK:DD and Rebel Strike were just a waste of money. I plan on trading in almost all of my games to EB, and seeing if I have enough to either buy a PS2/Xbox or at least take a considerable chunk out of the price. I would trade in all my games as well as my actual Cube if it wasn't for the new Zelda, and I'll probably check out RE4 too.

For whatever reason, whenever I go into Wal-mart to look at the new games, I always find nothing of interest in the GC case, and I often go check out the Xbox and PS2 case and see 3 or 4 titles that I really want to play. Nintendo makes quality games, always has, and always will, but they just don't appeal to me anymore.

Well....I suceeded in making a "hot topic" thats really all I was aiming for here guys...don't take it so seriously hehe.
Nintendo is great, a little predictable...but great. There I said it.
That being said ...see my new topic in the GC section...

I don't really have anything to say that hasn't already been said, so i'll just say that this was an awesome topic to read...felt like the olden days of this boad again. :)

Yeah, see, I'm basically the opposite. I was working yesterday and looking at the lists of upcoming games for all of the systems, and between PS2 and XBOX there was maybe only 5 games between them. All the rest of the upcoming games I wanted were either on the GC, DS, or GBA. Of course there were some upcoming PS2 games that weren't on the list, but if I had to make a list of games coming out that I'm interested in, it would go a bit like this:

PS2:
Champions: Return to Arms (have it pre-ordered already)
Final Fantasy XII (not in our system yet)

XBOX:
Area 51
Darkwatch

Gamecube:
Star Fox Assault
NBA Street V. 3
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Geist
Killer 7
Fire Emblem
Legend of Zelda
Advance Wars GCN
Donkey Konga 2

DS:
Animal Crossing
Baten Kaitos DS
PacPix
Mario Kart
Super Princess Peach
Another
Retro Atari Classics
Jam With the Band
Castlevania
Super Mario Bros.
Advance Wars DS

GBA:
Mario Party Advance
Wario Ware Twisted
