If I may talk about Halo 2's story...

Ok, I would like to take a break from all the talk of the great gameplay, the multiplayer, the wepons and talk about something that I thought was one of the best part of the first Halo.

I may be just a big nerd, but I love reading, so of course I love to have a good story in my games, and in my opnion Halo has one of the best for any non-RPG game. It was so good I bought the three books so I could learn much more (Buy the way I highly suggest any Halo fan to read these books. The Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First-Strike. At least read first strike because it tells what happens right after Halo ends and before Halo 2 starts.).

SPOLIERS to the first game and maybe the second!!

The end of the first Halo, as everyone knows, Halo was blown up and everyone was killed but Master Cheif and Cortana. But also if you watched it you also see Moniter, that blue ball of crap, floating away as well. But if you read the book, First Strike, Master Cheif find the black captain still alive (That's why you see him in the Trailers for the second one) and he even finds other Spartans (Thats what Master Chief is :D) Weither they will be in the game or not, who knows. I'll stop talking about the book know.

I'm sure a second Halo will show up somehow, Moniter mentioned many Halos in fact at the end of the Libary level.
As for a little back story, the Covent had never found earth, Humans have kept it hidden from them (And really that's the reason the whole Halo thing happend, to lead them away) but I'm guessing that somehow they found earth and crap hits the fan.

I'm really just babbling, but I'm trying to figure out as much of the story as I can, does anyone else have any ideas?

Well the Covenant found Earth be cause a ship escaping from Reach broke the Cole Protocol.

What other questions do you have? I'll find them out.

Ok I have read the books (awesome, btw) and from what I understand, they are basically written from Bungie's Halo "bible." Meaning that they are canon. So...I'm wondering what will happen with Cortana in Halo 2. She was kind of malfunctioning in the First Strike book. I didn't see any mentions in the OXM review of Cortana, so I am curious.

I can't wait to play through the campaign and see where the story goes.

My guess is that somewhere in the story, many Covenant will be killed by a Spartan named John. I'm sure there will be some enormous Spartan vs. Spartan or Spartan vs. Elite battles in small, unescapable places called Blood Gulch and the like..... :p

Amen to that trkorecky

You know, I forgot all about Cortana. Even in the game she was acting a litte diffrent after she merged with Halo's A.I.
And in the book it was getting worse and worse for her, she thought it was becuase she was holding so much memory
from Halo, and in the book she also had a "fight" with Halo's AI. I really hope this comes up in the next book or game.

Finally beat Halo 2 and I can see why people are disappointed with the ending.

It doesn't seem like it takes First Strike into consideration at all. Factoring in the books, where does Halo 2's story really take place, timewise?

Chronologically

Fall of Reach-The Flood (Or Halo Combat Evolved)-First Strike-Halo 2

I admit, I wasn't ecpecting the books to be factored into Halo 2 much. i wanted them to be, but Bungie can't really count on their fanbase having read the books.

They did throw a few things from First Strike into it, but you have to liten hard.

They talk about Reach a lot really...
One of the last stages in the game, when Master Chief is in that HUGE dome place, that was in the book.
In the same stage, Cortana mentions a Covent AI, a big part in the book.

I'll play through the game again and try to get the others I noticed.

As for the ending... while in a way I wish it could have been an actual ending, I'm glad because the story can go on even more in the next game.

The ending basically made me go, "huh?"

I really expected to see a few more chapters on both the Master Chief's and on the Arbiter's side of the story.

The giant plant made me think of Little Shop of Horrors.. "Feed me, Seymour!"

People glorify Halo and Halo2's story way too much and I think the only reason to play halo or Halo2 is for the Live or Multi player

I agree. Although I think the single player is pretty good, especially compared to other console FPSs, the real reason to play Halo 2 is for the multiplayer.

when i beat halo 2 grave mind comes in and doesnt cortana betray you? someone correct me if im wrong ::)

welll teh big bad breath guy ask for a couple of questions of his own, but i could never understand his deep voice problem so im probably hearing sumthing different then what hes actually saying, anyway then cortana tells him too go ahead and that seemed too me that she was like betraying them cuz like in the books she overloads her copys and im wondering if shes like going crazy from all the stuff she absored in halo 1 in the control room.
