I'm thinking about getting a slim PS2

Ahem...staying on topic.

Games I recommend for PS2 owners:

God of War
Katamari Damacy
We Love Katamari
Final Fantasy X
Tales of the Abyss
Final Fantasy XII
Shadow of the Colossus
Okami

Okami is the most Zelda-esque game, so definitely that.

Oh, OK. I had wanted some of the above, but some I had not heard of....Ya, I definately want to get Okami and the Katamari games....

Totally don't get FF XII. I'll be back tomorrow with my personal recommendations. I'm too lazy at this moment. But FF XII is the worst JRPG in years.. sigh. Thank god for Dragon Quest....

Culdcept
Devil May Cry
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
Disgaea 2
FF X
Front Mission 4 (If you're in to the more 'hard' core TBS games)
GTA III (???)
ICO
Katamari Damacy
MGS 2
Shadow Hearts/2/3 (?)
SHINOBI (Awesome game - way underrated)
Sly Cooper (one of the only good and worthwhile neo-platformers)
TAIKO Drum Master (If you like rhythm games, it's my personal favorite by leagues)
Wild Arms 3/4/Alter Code F (If you like Wild Arms, get em'. ACF rocks especially)
Xenosaga I/II/III are also potential entries, but not necessarily.

Also, Dragon Quest VIII.

I still wouldn't recommend FF XII unless you're certain you're going to like it, particularly since it's still expensive.

Did you like Front Mission 4 Sartori? I actually really liked the game, despite it being somewhat repetitive towards the end.

OMG. I can't believe I forgot to mention Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero 2! Those are great games if you have a PS2.

Also, I personally like the Dance Dance Revolution games as well. But if you play DDR you need the Red Octane dance pad.

Thanks for all the advice, Mai!

Auron, we just started playing Dark Cloud, so it is too early to tell what we think. ICO is really cool, though!

I love Front Mission as a bottom-line rule.

And as a side note, Dark Cloud is a pile of crap. That's my personal opinion, of course. They say the sequel is leaps and bounds above it, but.... based on my poor experience with Dark Cloud, I wouldn't even want to bother. Maybe some day.

The beginning kinda sucks because you are always strapped for cash, but later the game is fun and 2 is way better but i still love them both

Dark Cloud is mediocre, but ok. No comparison to Zelda, of course. I found Ape Escape 3 at Fleet Farm (you can get everything there it seems) for $15. Nobody mentioned Ape Escape.

Oh, ok. I had actually been wondering whether Dragon Quest or Shinobi were any good.

What about Pshyconauts? Was it any good?

DQ VIII and Psychonauts are awesome. Shinobi blows... there is nothing that sets it apart from other games

I agree about Shinobi. Camera problems and just plain annoying.

(Bring back the original guys :D)

Well, I just went to 3 game stores yesterday, and I picked up Shinobi. Ha. So, I will see how it goes. I got Ratchet and Clank yesterday also. Haven't tried em out yet though.

Shinobi feels like being in an arcade or something. it feels cool.

Ratchet and Clank seems a lot more engaging then Jak. It has that cute little robot too. I wish I could hold Clank cuz he is such a cute, tiny robot! :)

as for zelda like, id have to say shadow of the colossus, the kingdom hearts series, and maybe the jak games, if your streching it...

also, some other good ps2 games are guitar hero 1 and 2, and killzone.
