In-game Commentary - More games need to do this

So I was playing Tomb Raider: Anniversary the other day and I finally beat the whole Peru stage. Beating stages in this game will unlock things (and there's a ton of stuff to be unlocked) including commentary for the level you've just beaten. Once you've unlocked commentary, you can just replay the level (which you might sometimes need to do if you've missed hidden secrets, artifacts etc) and there will be these purple markers that you activate in the stage which will play commentary from the creator of the series and the creative director of Aniversary, who'll talk about different things like how they updated the level you're on from the original game, the different puzzles of the stages, etc. It's like a DVD commentary in other words, and it's pretty fascinating. :)

Just thought I'd point out what a cool feature this is. I really hope other companies pick up on this (I'd love commentary for games in the Final Fantasy and Zelda series, for example).

If the commentary was good, maybe. But most would just be thrown in, boring crap.

It could potentially be a really cool and entertaining thing. I enjoy watching movies with commentary in them, but as fhq said, most people would probably just throw in some boring crap with it.

It depends on who's doing the commentary. If the developers or the voice actors and what not are doing it, and they're known to be pretty excited about their work, then of course I'd play another round hearing what they have to say.

Depends who I'm listening to. If someone who was very enthusiatic about their part in making the game and had interesting things to say, then sure. However, if I were getting someone narking on at me about every little polygon incorporated in the making of Lara's inner thigh, I'd be a little less that chuffed. :/

the first one yeh. If the second one had commentary it would be something like this...

"Yeh, this is the last level. We were rushed. We ran out of ideas. I know we could have had more ideas. But fighting the brute was all we had. We're really sorry guys. We really really are. Try not to cry during the ending. We didn't quite get to do what we wanted there. We ran out of creativity. You might have realized that when you had to play the archon. We're sorry. HALO FOR LIFE"

Ha. I had fun with that.
