iPOD TROUBLE>>>

My girlfriend bought me the older model of the iPod Nano 2gb and i love it. I already had iTunes so I just plugged my iPod in and it worked great. So i got her the same kind just recently. Well i plugged it up and nothing happened. It didn't take me to the iPod setup screen or anything. I dont know what's going on. Just wondering if anybody else had a problem like this.

Whoa there. Let's not get hasty.

Anyways, are you on a Mac or PC? Did you install the iTunes software first?

Mac and i already had itunes on here. and it's exactly the same kind of iPod... I called wal mart and they said it was probably a defect in the iPod.

MY iPod still works on my computer. It updates new songs and everything. Its hers that won't pull up at all. It says on the screen DO NOT DISCONNECT just like on mine but nothing pulls up. And i don't think I need to use the CD that came with it because thats just for iTunes and quick time. When i did my iPod i already had itunes and quicktime and all i did was plug it in and it pulled up a screen where I register and set it up and i was done.

ok i might not have made my self clear enough. we're sharing the same computer for our ipods. ( 2 ipod nanos > 1 computer > 1 itunes )

Plug the one that is not working in and run the factory restore software. If that does not do it, take it to an Apple store and show it to the iPod Bar guys.

are you talking about where you plug in your iPod and it says u need to update or can restore it ? And every time i plug in the one that is not working it says "Auto Play" and brings up a dialog box with a flashlight rolling around and showing up a folder. Then it goes off in about 1 minute.

Yes, the one with Update or Restore.

The ipod turns off?

no no no the dialog box goes off the screen. I really don't think the iPod is messed up i just think that theres something i'm not doing here. When i pull up the ipod updater it says "initializing" and i can't click on anything and nothing loads. Or maybe i'm not waiting long enough. All i know is i NEED HELP!

A flashlight? Are you sure you're not on Windows or are you using Mac OS X 10.4? I have Mac OS X 10.3 and there is no flashlight, Ive only seen that on Windows XP, and I haven't used 10.4.
