Is it just me, or are a lot of people complaining about the DS?

Post it up... there seems to be a lot of negativity around the DS....

Anyone else notice this? IE graphics..... to there being 2 runs of the DS... 1 being made of less quality...etc

Post it up!

The only complaints I've seen are on IGN. Some have dead pixels and I guess some have a bottom screen that's blurry.

Mine seems to be fine, though.

no.... not just that... I am talking about the games.. system.. and everything. It doesn't seem to be going over that well.

maybe I am wrong.. but a lot of people seem unhappy.

The launch line-up is weak. Nintendo's biggest title is a remake of a N64 game and the third party games are all games in existing franchises (with the exception of Feel the Magic and I think that Urban Asphalt game). So obviously people are going to be like, "Well it's a new system, it should have new games too." Which is a valid point.

Most people that I know are interested in the DS, but they are waiting until next year when all of the big games come out to get them, so that they will have more to play. They are also waiting to see if any more colors come along, as it is Nintendo's habit to release multiple colors of their systems.

I only bought two games for the DS. But I also have a GC, XBOX, PS2, and GBA to keep me busy along with the DS, so a weak launch line-up really doesn't bother me. If the DS was someone's only system, then it would be a problem, since most of the stellar games (Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros., etc) won't be out until at least March.

You don't have IGN Insider, though, do you? Most of the people on the DS board who bought a DS are enjoying it. I could probably copy/paste some of their comments, if you want.

I am on insider... just not posting.

I am actually a little worried about the DS...
Have you seen ridge racer PSP vs DS?

me being a Nintendo fan and all... and being worried is a little statement I guess.

battery life seems to be the only thing the DS has going for it right now IMO.

Yes.

But do you think graphics matter that much? I ask because it seems like that's what you're inferring. The PSP has better graphics, hands down, and it can run 3D games better than the DS. However, if power was the biggest factor in success, the PS2 would have lost to the XBOX long ago. IMO.

The thing though is that it's about the games. The PS2's strength is its huge library. Not only does it have a ton of games, but it also covers almost every genre. The same is true of the GBA. Not the best graphics in the world by any means, but it has a huge library of games.

As far as numbers of games and variety of genres go, I think things will be even between the two, although the touch screen on the DS allows for some games that can't be done on the PSP (Feel the Magic, that surgery game, Yoshi's Touch & Go, etc).

Basically, I think the DS games will be more fun. There's just something really cool about having that touch screen.

I'm not really negative about the DS, I just have a kind of "bleh" atitude about it as I don't really have time for one. I have a PS2, with lots of games for that on the way, a Gamecube with even more games on the way and a GBA with quite a few games on the way. Basicly, i'm happy with those 3, and will be for a couple more years yet before i'm prepared for another system.

ok... I never infer that for myself..... BUT thats all I hear other people saying
"The PSP is going to kill the DS hands down."

My saying is: Graphics don't make a good game.... they just help.
OR Graphics don't make a game good, but they can make a good game better.

Nothing is reliant on graphics.... heck... if I can like some atari jaguar games.. you better know I Am not all about graphics :lol

A couple people that I talk with on a regular basis..... that are 100% Nintendo are wondering on the DS's success right now.

I hope all goes well for Nintendo and the DS... and I hope they retain the handheld market.

I can say is that the DS is no Virtual Boy. :D

Personally, I'm not all that interested in the PSP because it's so powerful it's like having a handheld PS2. And well...I just don't play my PS2 that often, so what would I need a portable one for? I don't see what the PSP has to offer that's going to make my experience all that different from just using a PS2. I don't get why people want handhelds to be like consoles. To me, the idea of a portable system is that it's going to offer something different from a console (and I don't just mean portability). The GBA has always offered something different in that it did 2D sidescrollers (Metroid Fusion, Castlevania) very well, and no consoles would do that since the focus for them was on 3D. Obviously, there were some exceptions (Metal Slug 3 on XBOX) but for the most part, the games I played on the GBA offered a different experience than what I could play on the GC, XBOX, or PS2. And that's also what the DS does well. Because of the two screens and the touch screen, the games are giving me a different experience than what my consoles offer.

I agree with you 100% there... if only the "maintstream" thought that way though.

Now... I own a turbo express.. that plays all the home Turbo Grafx 16 games... on the go. I love that.
But the PSP is different because you cannot play the games on a home console.

I like the Nomad as well... another great idea.

If wanting better graphics makes me a mainstream gamer, then sign me up.

I do partially agree that having graphics that good on a handheld is almost silly, as the screen is so small anyway and any technical prowess will be hard to admire in locations such as a crowded airport lounge or in the back of a car. However, the PSP has a kind of multifunctionality (MP3's being the most important for me) that almost requires and definitely encourages higher technical abilities, and in my mind "revolutionizes" what a handheld is supposed to be a lot better than two screens ever could.

The "dead pixel" is something that I believe happens to any LCD screen. Its really jiust a pixel that doesn't change colors. Nintendo already stated that if you have a DS with a dead pixel, you can send it back.

No complaints here, I've had my DS for about a week now and loving it. I forgot how much I loved mario64. I lucked out and got a good DS with no dead pixels. Actually now that i think about it i do have one little complaint, i wish it had an analog stick. No big deal though. :woot

Yay! Someone besides me here has a DS! :) Have you tried Feel the Magic yet? I am enjoying that one, along with SM64 DS.

As far as future games, I can't wait for Animal Crossing DS and PacPix. The latest issue of Nintendo Power has some awesome coverage on the DS.

No I havent tried feel the magic yet. How is it?

I have no interest at all in the D.S. Apparently, it is NOT backwords compatable with older GameBoy and GameBoy Color games, just GBA. Since I have some old GameBoy games (Metroid II: Return of Samus for example), I certainly will NOT be trading in my GBA for the dual screen. Besides, they haven't brought out any D.S. only games that have caught my attention at all.

Also, what was said about Nintendo releasing different colors later on is very true. Why get stuck with a color you don't like when you KNOW that Nintendo will release other colors later. They dug their own hole on that one.

I like the 1st color :lol

I cannot believe there aren't more titles though... thats the odd part.

They are saving them all for the US launch of the PSP, so that they have a comparable amount of titles. In Japan, they released a lot more games for the DS (like Wario Ware DS)on launch but a lot of that has to do with the PSP having a December launch in Japan too.

Plus, they rushed to get the DS out before Christmas so that they could have that advantage. If they waited until March 2005 when they'll have more games, they probably wouldn't have sold as many units, simply because Christmas and Black Friday would have already passed.
