I am so excited I just had to share this :D I think this will be the best build I have done yet. I know I should have went Intel, but I am a cheapskate so I went the AM2 route again. How did I do so far guys?

RAM-

I am really excited for the motherboard. I usually buy middle end boards in the $50-80 range so this will be the first "real" board I've ever owned. I still can't get over the price of that RAM :o. All I need now is a case, fans, after market CPU cooler and the the OS. Any recommendations on a good case, guys?

Oh man...I knew somebody would ask that :P Well, I could not afford a worthy PCI-E card right now, so I will be using a 9250 {ridiculous, I know} just to get it up and running. My B-day is on the 7th though so then I will get some money for this- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082

I think you linked the wrong graphics card there. That's an 8800 GTS.

But you do need to upgrade from a 9250. XD

What's wrong with a 8800GTS??? ;) Anyhow, I canceled that order because I am going with a different motherboard. Turns out the board has quite a few issues that don't seem like they will ever get resolved. Too bad, I was really excited for it.

EDIT: Just placed a new order, everything the same except this time I went with a Gigabyte board that has a much better rep :)

Everything looked fine to me except your RAM. Then again, I'm very picky and stick to Mushkin or OCZ.

Hehe, yea those are both great brands. My last set was Corsair XMS and honestly it was pretty crappy as far as OC'ing goes. I just went with the A-Data mostly for price and the customer reviews all seem excellent. If I can get the mail in rebate I will have bought 2 Gig's of RAM for $27....unreal... :o

Yeah, that is a great price.

Corsair and Crucial are good but don't like to be OCed very much. I find that OCZ and Mushkin are very stable and don't mind to OCed. I'd be careful about it, but if the reviews are good and they have a decent warranty then that is a good buy.

Warranty is lifetime, but I do not know if OC'ing will void that or not, lol. But for that price what the heck, if I burn one up I'll just buy 2 more Gig's ;) What brand of motherboards do you typically trust Poly? I have used Asus, MSI, ASrock {cheap but good} with good results. This will be my first Gigabyte board, hope it goes well.

Well, I used to really like Asus until I had a large rash of them go bad, approximately 15 or so. I then switched to MSI and I've really liked them. I've used Gigabyte here and there and I've yet to have a complaint. My favorite right now is DFI. That's what I have in my main system right now and I've never had a more problem free mobo. I wouldn't suggest one if you're somewhat new to computers though.

I've always had pretty good luck with crucial. I tend to stick to Kingston.

I haven't strayed to OCZ yet... but tempted to a few times.

As for MOBO's... I will only use ASUS. I haven't had any go bad... heard about people that did. That sucks, I am not sure how wide spread the issues were... or if there are still problems. But I've had all success with Asus so far.

I am HOPING to build a new PC by summer 2008. I don't know if the money will be there or not.

All the parts are pretty good for their price. The only think i would say is that A-DATA is not know for quality RAM. Along with OCZ, we get many returns on A-DATA RAM for varied reasons.

Well, let's hope mine turns out good then, lol! I had never heard of A-Data before this, but this set got really good reviews on newegg, has the lifetime warranty, and was only $40. If a stick fails I'll just get it replaced, if it fails twice then I will sell the other stick and get a new set of higher quality RAM. DDR2 is so cheap these days anyhow, it wouldn't be too big a deal. I am surprised about the OCZ though, I thought they made good quality RAM? What brand/s do you get the least returns on?

Yeah, I'd like to know. The majority of systems I build use OCZ. I've yet to RMA a stick.

Hey guys. Put it all together and it works! I ran memtest and found some errors at first, but upping the voltage slightly on the RAM took care of it. Other than that everything seems stable as of now. I added a Zalman heatsink to the Northbridge as it was known to get insanely hot. Right now it runs warm to the touch :) I decided to take a pic of it all outside the case.
