Hi everyone!
I'm working with my linguistics project about leet speak and "internet language" in general. I would appreciate (more than you'll ever know :)) if as many of you as possible would answer a few questions..
1. Has leet speak (the use of words like h4xx0r etc) affected your pronunciation? I mean that do you notice that you're pronouncing some words the way that you spell them? (As in not hackers but haxors.)
2. Some general information about this subject would be nice as well. How do you use lol, omg, uber etc and how often? Do you use them when not online?
Since information about this is extremely difficult to find, all kinds of accounts on this subject would be great!!
This project is due to wednesday, and I'm still a few pages short, so I'm in a bit of a hurry too.. (just an ordinary student here..  :help)
 
I notice that some people recently use lol and omg and stuff like that in actual letters, not just email....

I have a really kinda weird friend, he does actually say things like "I am a leet haxxor". I dunno, people just spend too much time coming up with things like that. :p
 
One time some kid at school said lol, we sorta made fun of him the rest of the day. I guess speaking like that isnt a good thing. :-\
 
It hasn't affected the way I speak at all with exception of joking with a friends whom I regularly talk to on the internet. I might say "leet" or "powned" to them since they're used to seeing it typed. It does not affect my ordinary daily language or formal writing whatsoever though.
 
I dont use it outside of message boards and E-mail. I dont see the point. But when its used correctly on the internet it can be very funny.
 
My friends use wtf and lol all the time outside of computers. Other than that, I've never heard anybody else say it.
 
I would say, with internet friends, I'll joke around with an occasional "lol, omg, or 1337" crack. But real life people who know nothing about internet, heck no.
