Life lesson number one: Stay away from my space!

If you want to keep your dignity, your job, your image, and what ever else you stand for, then heed my warning; Stay away from My Space! I'm not just saying this for my own well being, I'm saying this for everyone. All those things I mentioned earlier are at risk ever time you log in and maybe a few other things might be at risk too. If you have already signed up, you just opened a portal to hell. Theres still time for you; if you know whats best for you then heed my warning; if you don't, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK AND DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU. I've known to many people that I personally know and people I don't know get trouble with My Space; as well as some of the members on this forum are now facing consequences for things they did and didn't do, as we speak.

man :lol its really not that bad when people get in trouble for something on their myspace its their own fault myspace dosent force them to put that stuff on there

Myspace is a HUGE timewaster. I spent at least 8 hours a day on that thing. I had no life....I still don't :'(

I spend like ten minutes on it every few days. Myspace is boring, but I use it to keep in touch with friends and family. And if someone wants to get all bent outta shape about what I put on it, well then they have to get a life.

I like having my.space. I have mine set to private and don't do anything bad with it, so why would I get in trouble?

Like any other tool, the goodness or badness of the tool depends on the user.

If monkey is referring to the illicit bulletin posts (not) made by many users, that's a case of redirect links and stolen passwords, easily fixed by changing one's password.

Any trouble people get into on myspace is a result of indiscretions of their own.

As all tools, use wisely and realize that you are responsible. The same could be said for this (and all other) forums.

If people can't handle myspace then I got a message for you:

GET OFF THE INTERNET!!

Everything you just "warned" us about, is basically the same things you're supposed to do when on the internet.

I usuallly spend more time on facebook and only message one or two people on myspace, i never have those bullitens posted. My friends do though

I deleted my myspace account again, and frankly, I agree. I think myspace is 1. Boring 2. A huge security issue. It isn't just a matter of protecting yourself. You are being assault daily. It got so bad that I decided at a point not to even check myspace on my Windows PC.

On any other site, I would agree with you guys that general risks and safety procedures apply. But myspace is one giant wormhole (pun-intended). You are asking for problems just by signing up.

I have a few security measures taken on my computer. A good pop-up blocker is pretty much a necessity nowadays. Pop-up blockers and higher security settings (with a little sense) prevent a lot of malicious programs from installing through a browser.

I agree on this 100%. Everyone and their granny is so hung up on having myspace that almost anyone can harass you

Ok, I agree with you there, but the way they are doing it on myspace is duplicating a page that looks just like a sign in page or making a page that looks just like an official page from Tom. Now, if you knew that said warez site was bombarding you with adware and trojans on a daily basis, even if you had the software, are you going to go there every day and be bombarded? Thats just asking for it.

Also, how are you going to catch it every time you see a fake login page? What happens when you put in your password that one time? All the security settings in the world won't do a thing. And your pop-up blocker won't help you when Tom just told you to update quicktime.

Just my two-cents.

I don't know. I have like almost zero problems on my.space. Mine is set to private, and very occasionally I get a bogus friend request, but I just don't respond. It is rare that I even get that, though. Maybe, I might change my mind if I have a bad experience later, but so I just got on my.space this year, and it seems fine...like, it doesn't seem any different then coming on here.....

Check your address URL to see that it is the correct page...

I am starting to hate myspace all over again. This morning I go to check any mail on there, and notice that my ex-brother-in-law has started a page that horribly slanders my sister (Or libel, if you choose). Their divorce was bitter, and he is always thinking of immature ways to hurt her.

So, for those of you on my friends list, I am sorry if he has sent you all anything.

What is he like 15 years old? Seriously though, no man would do that sort of thing.

He's 31, and yes he's doing that sort of thing. He even uses my neice and nephew as pawns to hurt my sister. I think he got hit in the head when he was younger, because like you I believed that no man would do these things.

Its pretty simple, if you like it, use it. If you don't just don't use it! I think the people in here are bright enough to make up there own minds.

Is anyone signed up to second life? That's pretty weird!

While im here, can some one from America tell me when Heroes, Lost, Day Break and House is back on? We dont get it here yet so i download them. Thanks
