Lost the Urge...

Auron234

This is my story.... and you're not part of it.
Im sorry to say it but recently (within the last 2-3 weeks) I have had no desire at all to play videogames. This really disappoints me because games are like a passion but recently I just cant find myself to sit and play or i just get bored and find myself channel surfing on tv with nothing on rather than playing. And its not the lack of games either cuz I have a lot of games that I havent played much or not at all. The only things I feel like playing are Wii and Guitar Hero because they are more immersive and actually require me to do something... idk hopefully i'll get over it.

Have any of you gone through this phase?

Yup. Two main reasons I fall into a slump are when I work way more hours at work and I am too tired to do anything at all, or when I have a at home project that is consuming my time. Sometimes I just don't feel the urge to play games just because. And I think it's okay to do that. Because if you force yourself to do something you otherwise enjoy, you end up burning yourself out.

When I am in my slump, I stop playing games and use the time to hunt down obscure games that don't seem to get the same attention as mega hits. It's fun to find the oddities, and when I am back in the mood, I drop them in and just have fun. I do admit that sometimes I find the ones that have a good reason why they are unheard of. But I limit that chance by staying away from licensed games. :lol

Yeah, I kind of lost the urge for gaming a while back. Probably a big part of it was when it became obvious I wasn't going to own a next-gen console. Once that happened I quit keeping up with videogame news, and it all kind of spiralled from there. I still like playing games when I get together with friends, and occasionally I'll pop in something to play by myself, but rarely for more than half an hour. I sort of feel an urge to accomplish something with my time these days. If ever I'm feeling lazy and I just want to relax on the couch, I usually end up reading instead of gaming.

It may pass, it may not. I'd agree with Dart and say don't force it. In the meantime, however, don't just sit and watch TV. If you're not going to be playing videogames you might as well be doing something rewarding with your time.

Ya, I think what you are going through is totally normal. I am stil sort of in the middle of a phase like that..I have a ton of cool games to play on lots of different systems, but I keep not having the desire to play very much and usually if I do it is only for Top Gear on my SNES. Which really stinks, because I WANT to want to play games. I love them to death and all, but I think the urge will just suddenley come back after awhile. Like, sometimes other things in your life have to be going a ceratin way in order for the gaming part to be there fully.

Wow...I've never gone through any of the crap you people are talking about. I play video games pretty consistently, and there's never really been a point where I've lost the urge to play like you guys have...

i have it now

i have prince of persia 3, donkey kong jungle beat and vice city all unopened, just sitting there and i have no desire to play any of them.

And don't you just hate it, that yu just have to wait...like that you can't force yourself to be in the mood to be super into the games. It so sucks.

I've been playing games since 1984. It was bound to happen sometime because when I was a kid I could go all summer with never turning off my NES. Now things come up and priorities change. I still love to play videogames, but my ability to play them all the time is all but gone.
