Okay, I can't even believe you people are saying Harry Potter is better than LotR. Harry Potter, is a good series of movies, but by no strech of the imagination could they ever have the depth, and complexity LotR has.

P.S, Magick is teh hax0r. :D

Now that aint fair. People of all ages read and love harry potter. LOTR bored me to sleep while reading it though.

No actually, its mostly kids who read Harry Potter.

And even if LotR bored you, (it didn't for me), its still written far better, probably due to the fact that its more adult oriented.
 
Critically speaking, you can't really argue that Harry Potter is a better series of books than LOTR. More copies of LOTR have been printed than any other book (exception: the Bible) and no series has ever outsold it. It is simply the defining written work for english speaking people.

Harry Potter is a good, and ridiculously popular series. I've read them, and I enjoy them, but to continue using analogies to explain my points, LOTR is to Harry Potter what a Nuclear power reactor is to a double A.
