February 20, 2008 - According to a brief report by the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo is set to launch a Wii Channel for original downloadable Wii content, dubbed WiiWare, on May 12. Meanwhile, the anticipated exercise videogame Wii Fit will launch in America on May 19.

The Wall Street Journal elaborates that, "For games distributed over WiiWare, game makers won't need any approval from Nintendo, though they must get their games rated by an industry rating system."

IGN will have further details on WiiWare games in development and Wii Fit later today, so stay tuned.
Several things to point out. It mostly guarantees Mario Kart Wii in April. Still no launch date for Everybody Loves Nintendo. And the big one, game makers don't need approval from Nintendo to make Wiiware games, so you don't have to worry about them being three year old compatible.

Oh, I get WiiWare on my birthday! I hope it launches with some cool games for me to receive as gifts. XD!

Another continent getting Wii Fit before the US? Oh, the irony. Gamespot reports Wii Fit will help Australians through their winter doldrums beginning May 8 at the suggested price of $150 Australian ($140 USD, €91). The Aussie retail Wii Fit includes the same peripherals and software as other regions.

Wii Fit has already sold over a million units in Japan and is ready to feel the burn in Europe beginning April 25 for
£69.99 in the UK, and €89.99 for everyone else. The US has a scheduled release of May 19, but no price has been set.

I just downloaded the Nintendo Channel itself, but Wii Ware isn't until the 12th. It's pretty cool I guess so far, just a bunch of videos up right now though.

It's not too bad, kudos for Nintendo for finally make a jump up to the public by showing previews and videos. I know you can later get DS demos from this...but will the same apply for Wii games?

i sure hope so but for now at least videos is something, and the recommendation feature is something very interesting

So far there's 8 DS demos on there: Brain Age 2, Flash Focus, Crosswords DS, Jam Sessions, Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, Cooking Mama 2, Disney Friends, and Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword

the ninja gaiden sword one is the most interesting one, unlike the one you download at walmart this one gives you an oportunity to play in head ninja difficulty for a while

Brain Age 2 includes Rock, Paper, Scissors, Sudoku, and word spelling. Crosswords includes an easy, medium, and hard level, though all are easy. Rabbids 2 has an awful demo with a dumb minigame. Just one. Ninja Gaiden one is pretty cool.

Though I was poking around, and I found something interesting. The Nintendo Channel DS Download Station(DSDS(OMG, I get it)) operates on a different schedule than the in-store ones.
