Mercenaries...any good?

I was doing some reading on this game and it looks really cool. Just wondering if anyone has it yet, and what you guys thought about it. Thanks for any feed back!! :D

I have a demo, and it looks promising. It's basically Gran Theft Anything, so to speak. Not just Auto-mobiles. The AI are quite good, and you can blow up pretty much anything. I'm just a bit conserned it might be too repetitive with most mission being blowing the crap out of stuff. GTA are at least more varied. Still, I liked the demo.

I own it and it is a very good free-roaming action game. Like a cross between Conflict Desert Storm and Grand Theft Auto. Which makes a really good game  :D. The missions are kind of hard though, at least for me they were. There is an online store in the game where you can buy weapons from an air strike to a hummer. The missions are focused mostly around the "Deck of 52" or 52 North Korean officials who are leading the corrupt government. The goal is to capture (or kill) all of the 52 people. Sometimes you just happen to run into members of the deck while romaing the area, others can only be found by doing missions. The three different characters you can play with are also very cool. I started with the Swedish guy and decided to switch to the American character. I never played with the British lady yet  :-[. The guns in the game are rather similar though. There is little difference between an AK-47 and a M16 (which takes away from the game  :() However, this game is strictly action, no RPG elements to it and no strategy (except when deciding who and how to kill  :D) elements in this game. So if your looking for a game that combines those three, keep looking. Still a game that keeps you entertained for a month or two.   (I finally beat the game with the American. Go America! :woot)

Alright, then there are two questions I wonder about before I get this game. (I will of course get this; I'm just wondering if I should get to Easter in about two weeks or wait a month more).

1. I know you can blow up statues, collect blueprints and stuff like that, just like the Hidden Packages and that crap in GTA3. But is it any use? I spent a long time finding all those "Help markers" in Spider-Man 2, only to find out nothing happened at all.

2. Can you switch characters in-game?

o fine!

mercenaries is TONS of fun because the whole point is blowing things up for money. its basically a fun free roaming game that offers something new to the GTA3 formula. there is allot of vehicles and weapons you can use to blase a trail of widows and offens. the game is pretty long but the only problem is that there is no on-line multilayer@@!#$

Well, here's what I learned in the demo:

* I tried to shoot some random guy, but missed. He ducked behind a corner and threw a grenade at me. He missed. We played hide and seek between the houses for a while, until I saw him running towards something through my sniper scope. Instead of shooting him, I followed him. Know what he did? He noticed a tank. Yeah, a tank. He climbed in and blew up the house where he last saw me. Problem is I ran around the various houses until I found myself behind the tank, ran up to it, grabbed the barrel, climbed onto the tank and dropped a grendade into the cockpit. (or whatever you call it.) And that's a -random- enemy. Now that's AI.

* The demo mission have you enter a facility to chase down a Queen card. Sounds fine? Well, I didn't bother. I ran the other way and expected to find a natural "end of demo zone" or something. But no. I kept running and eventually found myself in a small village, complete with villagers and -two- vehicles, both with a gunturret and some guy operating it? In a demo? And that's not mentioning the civilian cars, or the enemy outpost I had to pass first to get there. And again, that's the demo version.

Re: Mercenaries...any good? heck no

i have had the game since it first came out.. I WASTED MY MONEY!!!! after i beat the spades i just quite... it is so repeditive.. i even put the cheats in and got all of the air raid and supplies but still.. ahhh just so repeditive. aint picked it up and played it in a few weeks.... anybody got full spectrum warrior..??? ill trade wit ya..

Mercs repetitive? From a guy who uses cheats? Yeah, I'll take that serious... :lol

Anyway, Mercs are quite a bit like GTA. If you go from point A to point B, it's boring. If you instead start at point A, wander off and do whatever you want and basically have fun, you'll probably eventually end up at point B sometime. The problem is it's not important. Read the subtitle yet? Yeah, "Playground of destruction". As in Playground. It's do whatever you want, whenever you want, if you want. Personally, I've started creating interesting moments and taping them. You can't do that in FSW. (which, by the way, are rather boring. You don't even play it, just tell your team what to do.)

I mean, don't get me wrong here. Full Spectrum Warrior are brilliant, just like for instance MS Word. The "real" version of Full Spectrum Warrior are used to train the new recruits to the US Army and force you to use tactics you would use in real life. However, the "game" version are tuned down to be enjoyable to the public. It is more of a game than the other version and allow you to do more mistakes, but it mainly focus on guiding your team through enemy territory and is very hard with all that realism involved. And when I say "guiding your team", I mean just that. Tell them where to go, who to go where, aim at what and all that. Afterwards it's the AI that do the actual playing. Kinda like the B-Spec mode in Gran Turismo 4. You tell the driver how fast he should drive and stuff like that, but in the end you mainly sit and watch.

Yeah, Full Spectrum Warrior was an interesting game, but it felt like it never changed throughout the game. Eventually, that game felt very repedetive, and your squads, god rest their souls, can't shoot worth shit.

Mercenaries was a pretty fun games, but as interested in a game like that, I have yet to fully destory a GTA game or Mercenaries, for the fact that I jump from 1 game to another.
