There is a topic on this band already I believe, but yeah they are great. Or were depending on who you talk to. They've lost a lot of energy in their music lately but it happens when you're 40 and have children.

I expect them to put out a decent album soon. Especially since Rick Rubin is now producing it and Rob Trujillo is a great bassist.

Nothing can top the first four albums for me. Master of Puppets is still my favorite song and album of all time.

yeah master of puppets is a great songi hope they release antoehr album cause that would be awesome

1. that whole napster thing
2. they sound like wussies now
3. 93.3 the planet (charlotte station) plays mandentory metallica every freggin hour it seems like
4. Did I mention the whole napster thing?

Metallica rule. In my dad's master collection of CD's, DVD's and records theirs about 20 on Metallica. Got Metallica as my background for this computer.

one of the guys from metallica was one of the more outspoken musicians against napster crying about it stealing from them... I understand what the guy was saying but you can't be one of the most sucessful bands ever boo hooing about losing a couple of bucks to napster, They weren't hurtin

It's really hard to prove either case. We don't know how much it hurt and we don't know how much it didn't. True they, Metallica, can't be hurt too much since they've made a crapload of money, but what about the smaller bands? Back when Napster was around, people didn't have the same mindset they do now. Back then people actually thought that they no longer had to pay for music. If it wasn't for the whole Napster case we wouldn't be as aware about music and the industry as we are today. I also believe they went about it the wrong way, but I think they had the right idea. Im just glad that's over.

I don't think napster took away from the recording industry at all. I think it helped. When napster was around it helped introduce me to a lot of different bands I probably would have never heard of otherwise. Some of the smaller guys that advertising had almost no part of. It also introduced me to some of the smaller record labels. When I found something I liked I went out and bought it simply because it's hard to get an mp3 to sound as good as a cd, especially on some decent stereo equipment.

Think of it like this, if you're "stealing" music that's of a substandard quality and dealing with it odds are you wouldn't have bought a cd anyway, you're too cheap to start with! Plus these guys that were just getting all their music off of napster had to have friends, and those friends had friends, blah blah blah, it's free advertising. Instead of fighting through the polotics of trying to air time on the radio your music is all over. Rural areas, suburbs, and anything in between.... Musicians weren't losing money, there's no way,

I agree and that's what I do. That's how I discover new bands. My point was that back then, in '99, nobody really could prove that it was bad or good because the concept was so new. And back then more people had the idea that they no longer would have to buy music ever. Which eventually could have hurt those smaller bands. But since that whole Napster case, people have become more conscious about how downloading can either help or not. It also helped expose the record companies. In my opinion if Metallica did not do what they did, then Napster probably would have hurt. It showed people that downloading can and should be used for the right reasons not just stealing.

As for musicians losing money, they can. Well actually they could have. Technology has finally caught up to the point that bands can use their own computers to record and distribute. But you have to put this all into context. In '99 hardly anybody did that. The record companies were actually needed to help fund tours, which is where a majority of the bands got their money. But if nobody bought any albums then record companies would just drop them from their label because they weren't profitable.

Once again, in '99, bands could have lost money. Now with the technology that we have, bands no longer have to fear losing money from downloading.

I think that if Metallica, or any other artist, would have not done anything then we wouldn't have the same mindset than we do today about downloading. Let's just say we learned from their mistake.
