Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition

Know something funny? I bought this piece of junk yesteday and have played it enough to have an opinion. The best way to describe this is "Need for Speed: Underground 3". It's a rather great car-game, although very unrealistic. You drive cars really, really fast through city streets filled with other cars. I like the "open" races where you pick your own line, and have managed to get quite creative at times. My best moment were driving through a very tight alley, miss the corner, drive onto a bridge, fly off the bridge, go between a few other houses and end up in 1st place. All the other cars followed the "normal" road, but not me.

The customization are better than in NFS:U, and I have unlocked the first bikes. Too bad the cheapest cost 60.000, but that doesn't matter. I won a car, sold it and have 35k in the bank right now. I kinda love this game, but no matter how you put it, it's a car game with bikes. It's a shame, really. You do have bikes, but they are only a minor part of the game. And even the bikes you do have behave very unrealistic, so I just end up driving cars anyway.

Great car-game, but crap bike-game. It's a shame.

I wouldn't call this another NFSU game. I dont think its a good car game either, it has absolutely no reaslistic in it whatsoever. I like the way that you can go really fast 'till you cant even control the car and see where your going and all of the shortcuts that lay all around the course. That's weird for you, the cars that I race use those shortcuts like crazy! Sometimes they dont take the shortcuts though. I dont like the fact that you have to use automatic transmission either, I tried and switched it to manual transmission and it just totally made me not want to play the game at all.

I do agree though with the customization, they're outstanding! Wish they had it in NFSU. Also, I hate the fact that the old cars are fast too, now come on, how can a Monte Carlo beat a Nissan Skyline? Impossible! They have the same problem with this in NFSU2 where they have a AE86 (1986 Toyota Corlloa) as the best car in the game for circuit races and defeating Nissan Skylines.

Well I'd reccomend this game for rental only. :-\

I recommend it for the customization alone. The rest of the game... well, rent first. ;) I like the arcade feel since it don't take itself too serious.

Im just really disappointed in this game. The customization is the best thing to me.

Yeah, anyone that thinks about getting this game you should definitly rent it first.

It's also very hard. But I guess that's logical if you drive a Monte Carlo at 150MPH against heavy traffic. :D

Now that I have had time to play this a bit more, let me add a few comments about the bikes. (since know the cars are really great.) and the game in general.

BIKES:
Pro's:
* This is a great car-game with bikes, but deep down it's a car game. Still, the bikes are really cool. You have a lot of "car-clubs" and one for bikes. For instance, cars have muscle cars, luxury cars etc, but you have only one for bikes. Still, you can race optional races and races against another person (as in NPC) with bikes.
* You can customize pretty much everything, you even have three different outfits to the driver of your choice. I personally like Maria, Outfit 2.
* They go fast.
* To get the best experience, I suggest keeping the camera as close to the drivers as possible without blocking your view. This brings you all the way down to street level, so to speak.

Con's:
* They are unplayable in rain.
* Going at street-level sounds cool and really is, but naturally you don't have too much view. It usually works anyway, though.
* They get a "roar" ability that's supposed to scare other cars away, but I find it useless. I prefer Zone, as in "bullet time". Without bullets, mind. ;)
* Uh, that's about it.

GAME:
Pro's

* It's fun to play, and you can customize everything. (yes, even write your own word on the windows in the font and color you choose.)
* When it works, it's the best racing game I have ever played.
* Great mix between cars and bikes. Drive what you want, pretty much when you want.
* Cops.
* Looks, sounds and more important, feels great.
* Although this is an arcade racer, you can tune your vehicle to act almost normal. Just go to Options -> Tune your vehicle.
* Great difficulty. Never to hard, never to easy.
* It's open cities, and some races have only a single checkpoint.
* Although stupidly hard at times, it's worth beating a hard race.

Con's:
* When it don't work, it's unplayable.
* You usually have to memorize the checkpoints, since the map is far to unaccurate.
* Since it's an open city, you can easily get lost. Even during races.
* It's almost unplayable during rain.
* How come the cops always chase me and let the other five races alone?

So there you have it, folks. An amazing game when it works, almost unplayable when it doesn't. And get used to start most races over again ten, fifteen times to memorize the checkpoints.

No, and I'm not planning to. I feel invincible when beating AI racers with twenty seconds, but online I would loose with five minutes. :lol

Oh I've been playing it some more now and I just unlocked the 2002 Nissan Skyline and all the class A vechiles. Now the game to me is a bit interesting and fun to play but those bike races and muscle car races are hard to me! Anyways, this game still sucks compared to NFSU.

Would it hurt just to try it out and see if you like it? Im sure you'd come in the top 3 at least since your beating the AI 20 seconds. Hmm..I just thought about it, you probally have it on easy difficulty dont you? :lol

Oh, this game's to hard? You whiny, little... :lol No, seriosly, I know what you're talking about. After more than 600 races, I had started over again about 450 times... One miss and you're out. Add the fact I kept loosing since I couldn't even find the checkpoints, and you've got a problem. ;) This game is a piece of junk when it don't work, but wonderful when it does.

I'm not playing on Easy. My best trick to win is simply ignore the map, signs, other racers etc as much as possible. Memorize the track instead. Use the force, Luke! Uh, Royce! Always look ahead as far as possible and take shortcuts. Learn the map, and it's really not that hard.

And just to mention it, I drove a Lamborghini for some time, but ditched it since it's too slow. The class A bikes (like the Ninja) are faster and takes shortcuts easier. Just be sure you perfect the weight shifting. Lean in hard corners, but only if you have to. You will take corners easier without loosing too much speed, but you'll crash easily. Second, I found a great tactic with bikes in rain. When entering a corner, simply tap the brakes and shift your weight. This would (most of the time) make the bike "jump" 90 degrees, set itself back on track and keep going without loosing speed.

Last, there are three things you should always keeping mind. Practice, practice and (you guessed it) practice. And don't worry if you seem to loose. With races that lasts over five minutes, I still end up a few seconds ahead of the rest. I have won by twenty seconds from time to time, but that's mostly luck. And, *ahem*, pushing other cars into walls. :D

I get what your saying now, Im just above 80% done with the game now, I'll be so happy when Im done with this game! I have like a couple of vinyls to unlock and defeat the rest of the racers. I have to agree with you as well on the bike races, they suck! I hate the chopper races with a PASSION!

I like the choppers? Well, not as much as the super bikes, but they do their job nicely enough. But that's the beauty of this game. If you don't want them, simply don't drive them. Finsh the chopper races with choppers, and every other race including optional races with anything else.

Man I hate the choppers! They're fast with no handling whatsoever, I hate the bike races period. The only way Im going to use the chopper is if its required for me in completing the game, other than that Im not touching it, modding it, etc. MnC3 totally disappointed me, just like Juiced.

Graphics aren't everything to a game though, it can have the state of the art graphics and have the crappiest gameplay. :-\

midnite club 3 iz a good game, but the game iz unrealistic and boring. the races hav checkpoints and the cars u hav 2 hook up r unbelievabley fake. How can u hook up a SLR, that thing iz already 2 fast. GT4 or underground 2 r way better choices.
