So what do you guys think? Should there be others included? Should some not be on there? Discuss.

I'm glad in a way to see that Pong is not up there, I'm tired of hearing crap about that simple minded game.

Anyways, the only game I don't agree should be up there is Alone In the Dark. Sure, it was more or less the first survival horror game, but Resident Evil is what pushed the genre into the extreme.

As for adding some? I don't know... Maniac Mansion perhaps. Oh and Pararapper The Rapper, I'm kinda stunned that it's not on the list.

did super mario 64 give that big of a push on things :? not being sarcastic, just curious

i'm surprised no MK game, being that bloody type violence and such

I think that SM 64 showed everybody that a platformer could be done in 3D. And I think that Street Fighter pretty much influenced Mortal Kombat, since 2D fighters were all the rage back then.

Alone in the Dark wasn't a great game? I found it a lot better than those Resident Evil games. Sure Resident Evil 2 are really, really good, but can you say that about the others? The first one are just plain boring. The third had potential, but had too many health packs, too much ammo and too many guns. The fourth one (which isn't even named Resi 4) had potential, but the story are just too boring. I didn't like the characters either. The fifth one (Resi 0) are GC only, which says enough. No one actually played it. Resi 4 left Raccoon City, and last I heard there isn't even zombies in it. I never tried the light-gun games, but what about Resi Online? The idea works, but what you forget is most people who play online think they are a superhero that don't need to work with other people. The AI works a lot better than online games, which would ruin the entire point in an online resi game in the first place. 8)

I dont think I get what you're saying, nightwolf, since Alone In the Dark is up there. Oh and I have RE0 so I did play it :p. It seems like you're missing the point. These are the most influential not just the greatest. Because lets face it there are a lot of great games out there. It all depends on people tastes. And a lot of those great games wouldn't be here today if it wasnt for some of the games that are on the list. And what you find boring, I actually like. They are not boring to me. And you need to check RE4, if you dont like it fine, but you should definitley check it out some how. Especially if you thought the others were boring.

Point is Alone in the Dark inspired people to make Resident Evil, and they got a great game the second time they tried. The rest of Resi series are influent as in "This is how to not make a good game".

Road Rash was an awesome game on 3DO, I used to kick the hell out of everyone on that game.

As am I happy to see that pong wasn't up there, for the fact most people think that Pong was the first game ever.

A game that alot of people did know about, wasn't even really a good game, and had horrible plot, but it was the first actual violent game I had ever seen was NightTrap on SegaCD before they had to recall it and give everyone censored versions.

It was this game where all these girls had a slumber party or whatever, and all these dudes in black would sneak in, but your role was you are an officer of a group called, "SCAT" and you set booby traps all around this house, and whenever dudes would sneak in, when this little meter would hit red, you had to immediatly hit a button and the trap would activate and you spent your whole time killing all these guys, and this was a game with real video, like, actual actors and such, and whenever you failed, they would grab the girls with these machines and suck their blood out and shit, and it was brutal at times, but I was like, 7 when I played this. I was like, "Whoa..."

It has like 2 movie stars in it, 1 of them being Dana Plato, but it was all real people and such, probably easy as hell to program. Like, if there was no action in the living room, it would just show the same screen for the living room, it had a game timer, that counted up, and I would write down all the times that they would pop up in what room, so I wrote the whole game down, I wonder where that piece of paper is now.

yeah thats why its on the list. As far as how not to make a good game, that trophy goes to Tomb Raider. like I said I like Resident Evil, almost all of them. I think they did a good job on them. Not great, but good.

I pretty much agree with that list. If you haven't already, go read "Ultimate History of Video Games" by Steve Kent, and you'll understand why a lot of those games are on the list.

But I do think that Tomb Raider and Halo should be on there. Tomb Raider, while perhaps not a great game, was pretty influential on a lot of other games. And of course Halo was a pretty influential game.

Tomb Raider, probably. Halo, I dont think it should because its not really influential unless you count being a pop culture icon being influential. Ive actually never have played it so from my perspective it just looks like a really good FPS. Nothing new. But for those of you who have played it what do you guys think of Halo? Me personally, I think doom influenced halo.

Sonic was influenced by Mario, though. Sonic was in fact created by Sega as a counter to Mario's success. So any game that was perhaps influenced by Sonic the Hedgehog was actually influenced by Super Mario Bros. If that makes any sense.

I noticed Street Fighter 2 are on the list, but no other fighting games? Why not? Which was the first 3d fighting game, for instance? And I have barely even heard about Street Fighter 2?

you have a point, Im not sure which fighter was the first to go 3D, im guessing Virtua Fighter. But SF II pretty much started the whole 2D fighter craze which spawned lots of copy cats. Basically SF II influenced almost all other fighters that came after it.
