MS confirms rumors of faulty 360's

What I am saying is, the facts being stated here are NOT actually facts.

Um yes they are facts. MS spokesperson said that there are problems and that they are isolated. But they also didnt want to disclose how many actually are faulty. Im going to say this one more time, no matter how big a company is there is always a chance of a faulty product, especially the first batches. Does that mean all of them are bad? No. Does that mean it's completely MS's fault? Nope. Im sure the majority of xboxes work fine and do overheat when not properly ventilated. It's happened to one of my friends at work. But in the end im positive that they will work out any kinks if necessary and the xbox will still sell extremely well. Im also positive that it's a great machine. I just wish I had money to purchase one.

Well out of the 20 systems my store sold, only one system came back defective.

It was mine, too. :lol I picked mine up on the 23 and didn't get a chance to play it until the next day. So I'm about half an hour in and the system just shut off and wouldn't power back on at all. I called Microsoft and they confirmed that it was a hardware failure. Luckily, like any sensible person, I had purchased a product replacement plan, so I was able to get another 360 the next day and I didn't have to pay for it.

I mean, come on. Anyone who has any sense knows that there is a risk when buying a system on launch. Any sensible person would in that case buy a replacement plan. I personally have no sympathy for any idiot who bought a launch system and didn't buy the warranty with it. If you're already going all out and dropping $400 on a system, another $40 for a replacement plan isn't that bad. I'd rather spend that $40 for the warranty than have to drop another $400 on a new system.

my buddy works at wal mart and theyve had a system on display there for a while........

he said before they even were able to set it up, microsoft sent them an update disk to solve one problem.........and it will hardly ever work even with the update........it sounds like a bunch are like that

A bunch of the demo ones, probably. They don't give a &^*$ about systems they ship out that aren't going to be purchased, as long as they fulfill their purpose (even if its only some of the time) then they're not gonna worry about it.

Don't you get a manufacturer's warranty with it at no extra cost though? I know if I'm buying a $400 system and probably a $60 game too I don't want to slap down any extra to ensure what I'm buying will do what its supposed to do.

Why not Stealth? Electronics fail, I don't care what the device, if it's an electronic machine it may or may not malfunction, that's just the way it is. I do believe it would be wise to opt for the warranty if you get a 360.

Exactly. It's true that there is a manufacturer's warranty but sometimes that isnt enough. Sometimes products fail after the 90 day period or whatever other time limit they give you. It's not to ensure you that it will do what it's supposed to. It's there in case it doesnt. It's insurance.

Bah, insurance is a scam, lol. If the 360 broke after the manufacturer's warranty(my Xbox came with a year, might just be 3 months though) then it was probably due to misuse. If it does work properly then you just wasted money for no good reason, aside from "peace of mind" I guess...

To each his own I suppose, but unless I was buying a car, or a house, or a computer (something in the $1000's of dollars) I wouldn't get insurance. If I was at all worried about the product's functionality I just wouldn't buy it.

yeah... the manufacturer SHOULD take care of it within 1 year... BUT the $40 you pay there... the company expedites the process and does it for you. A lot of time you get a refurbished one from the company (say Microsoft) if you deal with it yourself.

It just depends... I would get TICKED if they sent me refurbished... but I tell you, more and more companies are doing this.... INCLUDING NINTENDO.

Bv :hat

Ya, that's what I was told to. If it messes up they'll give me a new one right there. If I don't get the extra insurance it has to be sent away, 4-6 weeks, repaired, blah blah blah.

I recalled buying an extra warranty for another nameless system (GAMECUBE) and it blew up after my extra warranty expired, so really these things are a gamble either way.

Microsoft was willing to fix my system, but it would have taken 8 to 10 business days, and I would have had to pay the shipping and handling.

And I did actually think about sending it in. But then I was like, why should I wait that long when my store still has some systems in and I can just exchange it on the spot?

And that's really why I bought the warranty. For the ability to take it in to any GameStop and get a working system that same day.

Luckily for me, because my system crapped out in the 7 days that GameStop would have covered anyway (without a warranty), I was able to get a refund on my warranty and use that $40 to buy a warranty for the system I got in exchange. So I didn't lose any money at all, and I have a working system now that has a one-year warranty through GameStop should it stop working. I still think that the warranty is $40 well-spent.

Yes but even if you have all the confidence in the world that your product is going to work it still has that chance that it will break down. Because thats what electronics do unfortunately.

Oh I understand it's a bit of a gamble. I'm just saying its kind of a gamble either way. I mean, if you buy the warranty and don't end up needing it, in a way you gambled and lost $40, because you didn't need the warranty at all. If you don't pay the $40 and your system does crap out, then you gambled by not getting the warranty and lost either your system for a week or two, or your system entirely, plus shipping charges and all that.

I admit it...I NEVER bought a warranty for anything..... not a single thing I own.

now I have never got burned (knock on wood).... and I hope I never do :lol LETS KEEP UP THE RECORD!  :lol  :woot

Well I've had to use a warranty before on a guitar amp but I think that's it. I admit I usually do not buy an "extended warranty" but in the case of something like a 360 or anything with a disk drive for that matter, it's well worth it. Remember how much Sony charged to fix our broken PS2's??? Alot more than $40 I can tell ya' that.
