My coconut tree died

Ok...I'm new to this Animal Crossing thing so take it easy :-[

Anyhow...I found a coconut washed up on the shore the other day, planted it and two days later it was dead! Why'd it die so fast? I watered it and it even got rained on. I planted it amongst some of my native trees (pears), does that have something to do with it?

Just wondering incase I find another sometime.

well you can't plant them very far away from the ocean, another thing is that no matter how much you water a tree (because it doesn't determine growth unless it's a money tree) it is all about placement, usually six trees per 12 cells other things such as houses, signs, stores, rocks, the river, and the ocean can effect if your tree will grow or not

yeah.. in the Cube Animal Crossing... I planted a tree close to the back of my house... and it bacame a small little tree... kind-of cool :)

SO... you water the money tree more and it gives you more money?

I haven't had many trees die on the DS version... the Cube version I did.... but the DS version, I haven't lost many trees.

no if you plant money in the ground with a golden shovel and you water the tree every day and your fung sheg is good then you get the money otherwise it will just be a regular old tree (also you can only have one money tree at a time)
