my new short story idea

i am planning to write a short story called "I, Atom" this summer, it will be the spiritual successor to "gordon way", my last short story (http://www.egameaddiction.com/forums/index.php?topic=7410.0)

i have been thinking, and why cant AI become so advanced to actually obtain consiousness? i mean think about it, if we, humans are made of nothing but atoms, but we can think, live, and speak? if these atoms can, why cant metal atoms? if we could somehow harness the "power" or "secrets" of "god," we could infuse life into machines, let them think unique thoughts, paint pictures, even have dreams based on what they've seen, like humans. it is a thought that i think none of you can deny with.

please discuss, i give you, the working title

Hmmm...I'm thinking about that Hines and I don't think that will work as well as Gordon Way. Part of the reason Gordon Way was so provocative and really stuck with you was it was grounded in reality and the main character was a real person you could relate to. That's why I think this may not be such a good idea. You have gone incredibly far from reality at this point (because individual atoms can't contain intelligence on their own, let's face it) and you will lose the connection people made to the main character (whatever her name was) in Gordon Way.

I still think you could branch out into a Sci-Fi story, but I would change around the idea. I would make it some kind of thing (idk what because the first thing I think of, robots, have been done to death by Asimov and the like) that people can relate to more that would challenge our notion of exactly what life is. Just stay away from atoms because I don't think that will work particularly well.
 
hm.......although i still like the idea, and i might stick with it, i'll consider what you said.
