My PSX may be dying...

Last week, I popped open the lid on my PS1, and the button stuck. I guess I am starting to think that this is the beginning of the end for my beloved Playstation.

But I am stuck in a decision crossroads. Do I retire it completely, and just play my PS1 games on my PS2? Or do I get another PS1? I have countless hours of game data stored on a bunch of cards, and the things that sucks is they are not compatible with my PS2 unless I erase the data, format it for my PS2 and start over again...

Yep. Starts out small, but may get bigger with time...

ps1 memory cards will work just fine on a ps2...

You sure? I never had luck with mine. And a buddy of mine gave me Castlevania SOTN because he couldn't save his games on his PS2. I'll try it again...

hm....well dont quote me on this. i have madcats ps1 memory cards and i can use them on my ps2. maybe its different for whatever brand you have? :-\

Ha ha!! I dropped in LoD, and my PS1 memory card. And it worked!! I think my blunder was trying to save a PS1 game on a PS2 memory card. I have some aftermarket card, and it doesn't work like that. Well, I guess my PS1 can be retired before it completely burns out.

I told you! And I had to tell you like five times for you to believe too. :lol just kidding.

As for the button, it's normal. Mine sticks every now and then. It won't do anything to the electronics inside anyways. So it's up to you which one you prefer to play on.

It sucks that Playstation (one) games can't be saved on PS2 memory cards. However, the PS2 can save Playstation (one) game data on Playstation (one) memory cards...

But, you all figured that out already. Didn't you?

So you're playing Legend of Dragoon again, Dart? I am excited to play that game again, it is truly one of my favorite games of all time! I feel that that game has it all, great graphics {for its time}, really great soundtrack, excellent gameplay, and a very emotional story. Yet, I feel the game was unfairly thrown to the side in favor of the big dogs. Oh well, we know how awesome it is, their loss :D

You know, if Sony just happened to completely redo that game for the PS3, as in complete graphics upgrade, and whatnot, I would shell out the change to buy a PS3. I found this game one day for $6 at a Game Stop. The guy at the counter was shocked that there was even one of these games on the shelf, and that it was marked for that price. It has turned into my all-time favorite game.

Okay, I plugged my PSX in last night, and kinda did a rundown of it's condition. The open button sticks, and the green power light isn't as green anymore, but the thing still works!! I even jammed out about four hours on it today.

It's like a nasty busted out Buick. It looks ugly. It's structural integrity is questionable, but it fires up every time.

Dart..Even though I have a PS2, I still think it's a good idea to keep a PS1 around, especially if you have a lot of original psone games. If yours does go on the blink, you can get these things super cheap now, so don't despair.

I have both the smaller psone and the original, and they both still play great. Also for some reason, some of my PS1 games do not work on the PS2, so that's another incentive for me to hang on to them. While the PSone is more or less considered "dead", I still think it's  a solid console that has a lot of life left.

Good advice Gil. I would love to find a small PSOne just to have around in case my current one goes belly up. I once saw that Target had the small PSOnes for sale with three games at like $80. I didn't get it at the time because my wife said I already had one. I agreed. But I didn't have that one!! Oh well.

But like I said, my PSX is still running strong dispite minor flaws.

Here's the solution:

Take the case off and permanently press down the CD lid "button", so it'll always assume you're playing a title when powered up.

The problem you have is minor. That or just open the case and fix what's causing your tray to stick.
