my review of HL2

after six years, people started wondering if Valve was ever going to release a sequel to the renowned half-life? With games like doom3 and farcry releasing, HL2 had a lot of competetion and people started doubting valve.
could valve release a "half-life" beater?
could valve, with all their delays, even compete with other next-gen engines?
but most of all:
would valve ever release the game?
On November 16th HL2 was released and sent shockwaves to video-gamers throughout.

After playing Half-Life 2 and being a huge fan of the original, here are the scores i give HL2:

replayability - 9
Took me about 15 hours to beat it,I'm on my second round of HL2 just because of the sheer amount of things you can do through the game. There are tons of ways to solve the frequent puzzles that are pressented. The only reason for the 9 is because, as of now, HL2 doesnt have multiplayer capabilities (HL2-DM is coming soon)

graphics - 10
raises the bar for future games, hl2 is the most realistic engine to date....make sur eyou got a good card though!
players faces react in the most realistic ways, breaking down that fourth wall

gameplay - 10
So much to do, so much to see - more fun than we could have hoped for. The freedom and storyline throughout the game is amazing

sound - 10
realistic weapon sounds, great voice acting, very accurate lip synching technology

Overall - 10/10

Worth The Hype?
hell yeah.

you'd be surprised what it can run on, but if you have a dx7/6 card you really wont be getting the full experience, what card do you have?

I have a P4 2.4 ghz, 1 gig ram (DDR 2700), 7200 IDE Hard Drive 120 gig, ATI All In Wonder Pro 9700, sound blaster audigy...etc....

How will it run on my pc?

I am talking I want full graphics.

video card- ATi Raedon 7500 with 64 megs of memory on that bad boy.

I just want to be able to PLAY this game without it feeling like a multiplayer on 14.4k dialup.

both of you got comps that will be able to handle directX 9 (not that 8.1 is bad, you just wont see water reflections, softened shadows, and model self-shadowing)
with a lil tweaking you guys can get it to look how it was meant to though so i'd recommend buying the game , but it'll definitly be able to run on both of your systems

tmaxx....you may not get many shader features and will probably have to run on dx 7 :-\
with 64 megs of RAM......nah it wont be able to handle it i'd recommend getting both a RAM and card upgrade

I think HL2 would want more RAM on the vid card, but since AGP is directly connected to the system RAM, having a lot of system RAM should help back up the RAM on the card.

i'ved still never seen a game take over 130 megs of ram so if that ture they should use MORE, i got it might as well use it.

Doom 3.

im not worried about the mem on the vid card its just a pretty old vid card, it MAY run.....i'd test it out on a friends account before you buy it

tryied it out works great and glytch free, actually looked MUCH better then i thought it would have. Also very smooth and nothing jerky, so i'm pleased with that.

So this is going on my X-mas list, hopefully i'll be busting it up in multiplayer with maybe a GA clan :)

I would be.

unfortunately.... its stil installing...... that decryption of the halflife files takes a long time for some reason....

ok.. I have played this.

its not too bad... but I am not sure if it lives up to the hype or not. I just got passed the "air boat" stuff.

Is there a lot left in the game?
