My Teef Hurt

Despite the comical Simpsons dialogue the subject of this topic refers to, my current pain is anything but comical.

After eating a snack this afternoon I found the right side of my mouth to be unusally exhausted after chewing, even to the point of being sore. I thought perhaps I had pulled a jaw muscle or somehow clicked it out of alignment, but upon close inspection in a mirror I found a tooth in the back of my mouth very slightly protruding above the surface. Wisdom teeth. Great, just great.

Now I've never had wisdom teeth before, but from what I understand more often then not these things have to be yanked out of people's skulls so they don't get infected or whatever. Right now seeing a dentist isn't an option I'm really looking in depth at. Is there any chance this wisdom tooth will decide to stop growing for awhile, say until final exams are over at the end of April? Or am I gonna be in this oral pain until I see a dentist, which will then most likely leave me in even greater oral pain?

Get your butt to the dentist man....if they are causing pain...get there asap

As for me, I still have my wisdom teeth. How? Easily because when I was 14, I had four teeth removed to make room for braces. Which gave enough room for the wisdom teeth to grow without any problems :)

The upper advantage of still having Wisdom teeth...your bite is stronger it seems.

Yet if you still have all 32 of your teeth and don't have the room..it's time to take them out

the first week they load you up with pain killers, they said I looked like a puffy zombie....oh the pain....

nah dont listen to these fools. i have my wisdom teeth and im 15. so its all good. just hang in there and if you need to go to the dentist ask for da gas man.

um.... why won't you see a dentist?    Let them take X-rays... that's basically the only way you'll know.

If they need to be operated on and you don't know or don't find out, it can mess up your mouth pretty bad.

Bv :hat

i have a buddy that says all 4 of his wisdom teeth hurt...i asked him if he was going to dentist..."nope, im just gonna tough it out"

lol, alright, whatever :lol

It depends on how bad your wisdom teeth are. If they are perpendicular to the rest of your teeth and pushing up against your molars then it would be wise to get them removed. Unless it get's infected, or if it hurts really bad, you can probably hold off to see a dentist.

The only problems I have with mine is that my right side gets sore and swelled up every once in a while. Other than that, I just forget about them. I haven't seen a dentist in over 5 years and I don't plan on seeing any soon.

My wisdom teeth came in but they didn't bother me, of course I felt them coming in, but they didn't hurt so I still have mine.

When I was a kid I had a dentist who had the foresight to pull four of my teeth so when my wisdom teeth grew in they would have room and I wouldn't have to have them carved out. At the time I thought he was a @#$%^^&, but in retrospect I am mighty glad he did it. My wife has to have hers gouged out and it looks like it's going to be ugly ::D

A common missconception is to grab for the pliers when the wisdom teeth start to pop up. It depends. For most people, it is a good idea because they either do not pop up in the right spot, or there is simply not enough room to accomodate these late bloomers. Also, the root system on these teeth are almost nonexistant, from what I have been told. Old wive's tale?? Perhaps.

But I come to tell you that, from personal experience, they don't always have to come out. My bottom wisdom teeth are MIA. I guess that's a good thing. Top ones?? Hurt like nobody's business for a few weeks, and viola!! They soldiered up and all is good. So if your head starts to hurt like your brain is wanting to jump out of your skull and seek new dwellings, then see a doctor pronto. The thousands of dollars to have them removed (sorry, string nd a doorknob is not an option with these babies) is a mere drop in the bucket compared to the mass quantities of pain that would be caused by an infection. And if they get infected and you neglect them, you run the risk of pushing up daisies, if you catch my drift.

So I'd suggest seeing a doc, open wide and get a professional opinion on whether or not to jackhammer them puppies out. And bring a mint. Your doc will appreciate it. :D

Well, seeing a doctor/dentist is not an option until Monday anyway. Once Monday rolls around I'll get a professional opinion on what's goin on, until then, I'll just suck it up.

While my mouth is still a little tender the pain has almost completely subsided. From what I can see the tooth seems to be pushing up in the correct area. It's also not making my other teeth hurt or become sore, so perhaps there is room in my mouth for it. Ah well, for the moment I'm ok, so I'll just cross my fingers and hope the doc has some good news for me. :D

Most people get them between 18-20 I do believe, but obviously it can happen sooner/later. If you don't know whether they've come in or not, chances are good they haven't. :lol

My teeth seem to be back to normal, the area where my wisdom tooth is pushing up was a little sore this morning, but now it's all good. I'm still going to see a dentist though, just to make sure, lol.

Uhm, what age do wisdom teeth usually come in at? I'm not sure if I have mine yet, actually... *feels stupid*

Kirby, believe me you will know if they show up. The dull ache in your jaw, the sharp pain as your gum line rips, and the odd taste of blood in the back of your mouth are all signs that you're getting wiser!! :lol
