NeoGeo CD image problem

Hi all.

Last year I traded in a GameGear for a NeoGeo CD. All was fine, I was in vacation so I could play the games, but when classes re-started, I put away the system neatly in its box and stopped playing. Some months later I got the game out to play again and the weirdest thing happens: the sounds of the menu are heard from the T.V, but no image is shown. I checked the cables, the power and everything and nothing worked.

I'm afraid to open the console since I have no electronics knowledge, so I tried taking the system to a bunch of technicians but none of the even bothered opening the thing up since SNK doesn't support my country anymore (BRAZIL).

Can you guys help? :-\

I'd appreciate it.

welcome to the boards! We hope you enjoy your stay.

JUST FOR KICKS... do me a favor. After you hear the CD logo... and have a game inserted. Wait 1 minute (to make sure the game is ready in the NEo CD system) and then press start... as you would normally do to start loading a game at the cd panel graphic screen.

see if the game loads and if you hear music and all like you would normally..... except you wouldn't have a picture.... of course.

Do you use the A/V (Red, white, yellow) connectors? OR the S-video connector?

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Actually, the system is now in another technician, but he already said he won't bother with it, so I'm picking it up tomorrow.

I tried doing what you mentioned before, and I think nothing happens, it doesn't appear that the game loads...

Thanks for the fast reply, I hope I can fix this, I can't see any other way other than me myself doing the fixing in this system.

Oh yeah, I'm using a normal A/V cable, I don't have SVIDEO. I was thinking about that other cable that can be used, but I wouldn't be able to get one anyways...

the RF style cable?

I think I might have one if you are interested....  You might want to try that OR the S-video if you can.
This will let you see if the composite outputs on your Neo CD are bad or what.

But you said you do hear the startup sound, correct?

Try it again tomorrow and see if you can't do that test I posted above... if not.... I am not sure what to tell you..... until we can see what your screen says.

BTW.. where are you from?  What region... PAL or NTSC (well... I just noticed you said Brazil... I think that is PAL, but I want you to double check :) )?  AND what region system do you have (PAL, NTSC)?

no problem on the warm welcome :) we are glad to have you here!  Hopefully we can retain you as a poster for our neogeocd.net section  :D

Well, the region for video here is PAL-M, and the system was made here, so I guess it is PAL-M, which is the same frequency as NTSC, but with the oposite color scheme. You know, NTSC is black and white. But most TVs got that tri-channel function, so all systems work.

I will try again tomorrow then... I can't try SVIDEO since my TV doesn't have the required plug-in and I don't have the wire to do it.

But it will hard buying anything off-country, sorry. I have to make this work with A/V, I want the system to work the way it is supposed to and the way I want it to, if not, it isn't worth keeping, right?

I will try posting here often, I really liked the reception. It will help if I can fix my NeoGeo CD... ;) Then I will surely stick by here! :lol

hey... just for kicks... what is your serial # of the system? AND what is the #on the AC adaptor?
Please include the 1st letters of the serial # as well on the back of the system.... AND on the AC, it will read something like POWCD-X (yours will be different though).

Is your system complete with box and manual?

have any pics?

BV :hat

Yep, it is complete. I will send you the numbers as soon as I have the system here.

Pics:

I also have some CDs that didn't come in boxes. Sums ups to about 7-8 original games and about 20-25 copied ones (yeah, the system came with them, I didn't download anything).

Console Serial Number: 04342
Power Supply Serial Number: POWCD-E

And I tried your method again and I can clearly hear the CD spinning and the lens moving (maybe, don't know how lens sound). But the game it seems, doesn't boot, or it just the sound on the game isn't showing, don't know.

What else can I do?

I wonder if something with the cable or the inputs have gone bad?  Without video.... it is hard to see what is going... IE to see if there are error messages or if the game is not booting up.

On your serial # 04342, is there a couple letters before it?

Does it say something about the importer of Brazil.... or what does the serial say? I can't tell from the pictures if the box is from Brazil.... it looks like it though.
Only the Brazillian, US, and PAL Europe systems have that box. Now, if you have a PAL Europe system... I don't think you can use it successfully in Brazil. I could be wrong.... but without a converter / Euro style TV, I don't think it works right. Brazil is on the same TV as us I believe, but it is the Power that is different.... or the power is the same, but the output is black and white on our US TV. Man, I haven't had this discussion in a long time :lol I have to find my references again to make sure I am right...

thanks for your time :)  If you have a brazillian system... that'll be cool... those are hard to find.

well... to tell you the truth, I am not sure, UNLESS you can get someone to try to repair the video out on the system.  I personally do not know how to fix that.  Maybe try opening up the system to make sure the contacts are all soldered still.

Until that is done, I don't think anything else can be done.

Can you do me 1 last favor... can you give me a close up pic of the serial tag when you get it back? :) this is for my personal information.  I have a Brazillian Neo CD as well that I have kept for myself (on top of the US one I have). I am trying to find out how many different ones there are.

BTW... IF your system doesn't work... and you want to sell if off, would sell it in this direction?

†B†V† :hat

Actually I do want to sell it. It comes with the games shown plus the other ones that don't have a box and the copied ones I mentioned.

Where are you from? How would you pay? And how much would you pay?

Here's the picture you asked:

sorry man... please email me: sales@egameaddiction.com

I've gotten really really busy. I can get to your email though.
