Guys I ordered my new pc finally.

Duo 2.13, 250GB HD, 2 GB Ram, 256 GeForce.

I really needed a new one and the games i plan on playing on it are Diablo and Guild wars so i didnt need anything to amazing.

It should be here the 17. Im trying to figure out what apps and programs im gonna want to install on it
 
Awesome. i can't say anything about the programs you can install but thats cool.....lucky....;)
 
You may have wanted to hold off on that one for a little while. DX10 is here and, given maybe a couple more months, you could have gotten a comp with a DX10 compatible graphics card. I know you said that you won't be playing much on it, but if you want to play any new computer games, you will probably need DX10. DX9 will still be around for another year or so (as in devs will make games DX9 and 10 compatible) but still...
 
hm.........if guild wars is the most power hungry game you want...you should be just fine, and be able to run it great. :)
 
yeah i dont plan on getting any games for it really.

just diablo 2

guild wars

and maybe some warcraft 3.

Any ideas of some programs though?

I need photoshop and office 03
 
dont get photoshop, ares

get gimshop (www.gimpshop.com i beleive) its free, and is made to look and work exactly like photoshop

well i have photoshop already, is it any different?

the video card isnt anything good. i think its a geforce 7300 LE
i just want to play guild wars, diablo and warcraft 3 like i said.


Btw, it should be arriving here tomorrow. Im pretty excited.

no its designed to be exactly like it. but if you already have photoshop, then use it, i imagine its superior in many ways. i was just trying to save you some money :lol

Yea, a ton of them! Let's see, first of all you're going to want to get all of the needed security programs. These include, AD-Aware SE, AVG free anti virus software {very nice program}, Abexo free registry cleaner {must get this one}, and a good de-fragmenting program. Basically, you wanna run these programs once a week to keep your PC up to speed. If anything at least de-frag every week, you'd be surprised how fast a hard drive gets fragmented which can really slow things down. You should use the registry cleaner right away when you get your PC, and anytime you install/uninstall a program. But make sure you turn all the stuff off when you go to play a game, it will really hamper the game to have something like an anti virus software running in the background. You might also want a program called 7-zip. 7-zip is needed to "un-zip" many file types such as 7z, RAR, zip, etc. You can also compress files into those formats as well. This can be super helpful if you wanna split up a very large file into smaller portions. Other than that you should be good to go. Oh and yea, your video card will be fine for now, but if you need more power it will be no sweat to swap that one out. And I'm sure that's a PCI-E x16 card which is the latest and greatest slot type, so you will have many options if you decide to upgrade. As far as games, well....you're just going to have to research and make a list! I just bought Ground Control 2 and F.E.A.R, so there's 2 good ones right there! Just go on Amazon.com and look up a PC game you like. When you do that it will list other games that are similar and what not, so it's really helpful. Well that's it for now, have fun with it!

so yeah i got it and love it.

all i have on it right now is guild wars and unreal tournament 2004

Right now I have:

Kaspersky v6.0 for my antivirus
SpyBot S&D for spyware

I also downloaded CCleaner


Are there any other programs I need for security?
 
If you have common sense, you don't even need those. I've run multiple computers for years and browsed any site imaginable without any problems.
 
I haven't payed for any software in ages...

Games...programs...I'm a bad bad man.

P.S. Office 07 is pissing me off. Stupid free full office suite...
